If you're like me who loves nature, you'd most likely be an advocate of the 'Going Green' movement. What does Going Green mean?
I'm going to answer that question with my own concept. Going green to me is any effort to conserve and/or recycle natural resources & most of all being more mindful, responsible and friendly to the environment. Thus everything from bio-degradable, toxic-free materials, organic, recycled materials, renewable energy, energy efficient appliances & buildings, among so many other things come to mind.
I am so ecstatic that a lot of attention and effort are now geared towards Going Green. A lot of people are getting actively involved in their own way. Why... if we delay even more, the effects of our irresponsibility - tossing every waste & use of toxic chemicals without thinking twice, would soon make this planet less and less desirable to live in. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels the heat literally these days. It's become more hot & humid than ever! I think most of us have heard of the El-Nino effect and that the atmosphere's ozone layer has depleted because of carbon emissions and toxic fumes and wastes.
I've already seen a lot of improvements since my blog post regarding Going Green last year. In our subdivision, mid this year, we were given a different container wherein to put our recyclable wastes, like plastic containers, papers, small electrical items, etc. I'm also happy to see that there are more paper recycling dumpsters around the city. Another observation is that more grocery stores are offering alternative to plastic bags and I see more and more people use these recycled non-plastic bags for their purchases.
The government is encouraging this movement as well by offering tax breaks if you want to make your home 'greener' so to speak. Click here for this way to Going Green from the US Department of Energy.
If you're in the Southwest side of Houston, below is the map of the center where I go to bring all my recyclables.
Each one of us has a responsibility. It is to our benefit if we become more responsible consumers. For who would not think of taking care of his own home. This planet is our habitat so let's treat it as we would our own home and let's all move towards Going Green.
