Johnson HS                    Central Catholic HS

Only one more week of summer vacation!  The new school year starts on August 23 for public schools in San Antonio and Catholic schools started today.

Remember that two new laws are in effect regarding cell phone use while driving.  One bans teen drivers from using cell phones and text messaging devices; the other prohibits drivers from using handheld cell phones in school crossing zones.

Have a great school year and stay safe.

Shirley, interesting new laws. Personally, I think cell phones should be banned in cars, period, for all drivers. Enforcement will be the determining factor on the success of these laws. Thanks for sharing.

Dan and Amy, I absolutely agree with you!  Yesterday we were driving behind a man who was deeply engaged in a cell phone conversation all the while weaving from the outer lane to the shoulder of the freeway.

The statistics are staggering for accidents that occur while talking on the cell phone and texting.  I've started putting my cell phone in my purse, where I can't reach it while driving.  Now... if we could just get the other drivers to stop tedting/talking while driving, the road would be a safer place.

My new phone is great in one respect...I can't email and drive anymore.  I can barely talk on it.  Not user-friendly.  So, it keeps me and everyone else much safer.  Everyone should have my phone.  Fewer accidents!

Great reminders, Shirley!

I agree cell phones should be banned while driving. Every time I see a dangerous situation on the road these days the reason is a cell phone.

Birmingham just passed a law prohibiting texting while driving......there have been rumblings that cell phone use will be next.  I hope so!
