The First Day of School and Starting Anew

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Alliance in Louisville, Colorado

Today was the first day of school for most of us in the Boulder Valley School District.  My oldest Daughter, Ria, is going into 2nd grade.  And the first day, today, was a success.  We got to school on time with all of her school supplies, it took three of us to carry them all to school.  Ria met her new Teacher today since he was just hired this past Friday afternoon.  Ria met a lot of her old school buddies and she met some new friends as well today.  And at the end of the day Ria was happy and looking forward to another day tomorrow.

The first day of school brings back a lot of happy memories for myself.   Other than Christmas Day, the first day of school was the best day of the year for me when I was growing up.  It was a new year and we all started our lives over by the beginning of a new year of school.   I remember going to school in my brand new clothes, new shoes, with all of my new pencils, notebooks, rulers, and new lunch box.

The best part was seeing all of my school friends which I had not seen over the summer.  Getting together, talking, laughing and just seeing them was so much fun.  Meeting my new Teachers and hoping I did not get one of the "meanies."  And of course meeting new friends in my class.

As Adults, we need to remember the joy of "the first day of school" and try to apply it our everyday lives.  Each day can be a new beginning for us.  Remember the old saying, "today is the first day of the rest of my life."  I know it's cheesy, but it does apply.

We get so caught up in our daily battles and routines that we forget the simple joys of life.  I know myself I always get excited and look forward to meeting new Clients for the first time.  I truly enjoy going out and showing homes to my Clients--it is so much fun sometimes when I am out with my Clients that I forget it's my job because it's just so natural to be with them while we are viewing homes.

Looking forward to an event makes that event all the more special.  My Daughter had been looking forward to this day for the past month.  She's been talking about it, hounding us about going out to buy her school supplies, making sure she had all of her clothes, shoes and new backpack ready.  I truly enjoyed her enthusiasm and joy and it made my Wife and I so very happy.

Hey I agree that is a special time.  Make the most of it.  Great you took pictures.  I barely remember first grade though I remember the teacher well.  I watched all 5 of mine go to school for their first day.. took the time off to do it. I will remember those all
