The Whitney Senior Center in Saint Cloud MN has grown to become a treasure in our city. Located next door to the Whitney Memorial Park & Recreation Center just off Northway drive and right around the corner from the St. Cloud Hospital. The Center & Third Age University are committed to expanding minds because we should never stop learning, not even during our retirement years.
The Mission of the Whitney Senior Center, a community-oriented organization, is to provide "a variety of social and educational opportunities for residents, predominantly age 55 and over, in the St. Cloud metropolitan area. This mission is accomplished in a non-discriminatory inclusive manner, emphasizing sensitivity and life-long learning for the participants."
Whitney Senior Center has become so successful that it is being used as a model for other programs and centers. The Center strives to make each class, workshop and the living environment the highest quality and it is their priority to fulfill the needs of each and every client. Every Monday morning at 10:30 there is a guided tour of the facility, and orientation to the faculty, including an introduction to the different programs and services the center provides in the community.
On Saturday August 21, 2010 the Whitney Senior Center will be holding its Senior Expo. From 8:00 to 1:00 the Whitney Senior Center and the Recreation Center, next door, will have over 80 vendors, offer door prizes, provide free entertainment, free health screenings, and more, plus lunch will be provided for all who attend. This year the Senior Expo will feature Ron Schara & Raven from the television series Minnesota Bound.
The Whitney Senior Center celebrated its 30th Anniversary in April of 2007. That same year the Whitney Senior Center also became part of the City of Saint Cloud's Department of Aging Services along with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). The Center might say Senior in the name, but there are alot of activities that are enjoyable for all members of our local community. Stop by the Expo on Saturday and you will see what I mean; Whitney Senior Center and Third Age University of St. Cloud, just one more wonderful reason to love living in Central Minnesota.
