Hi Myrl, I followed the link and learned that People magazine featured these chickens back in 200o. Wow.Then I read Elizabeth's comment and yours back. I am laughing because the very thing that I thought of Chickens so near a Chicken Bar-b-que seems way to close for the town's celebrities. Maybe it will be a pork Bar-b-que. Chickens never mind be involved in a meal ( like scrambled eggs for instance) but they hate to be forced to be committed to it (like bacon) . LOL.
Did everybody forget the CHICKEN DANCE? I bet that is one of the hot events at this festival!
Girl this sounds like wayyyyy toooo much fun ! Oh please video and post now I have the chicken dance song singing in my mind !
Have a fun, great, fab...u...lous weekend
Andrea - I am really hoping to attend. I was mauling some travel plans for September, but other obligations are more likely to keep me here closer to town. Old Fair Oaks is just on the otherside of the Sunrise bridge from me. I have a daughter and grandkids that live there, so can't imagine I'll escape the Chicken Festival.
Fred - The last time I did the chicken dance was at a holiday party a software company I worked at was hosting. It was in a grand ballroom, with cushioned seats at the table. I was responsible for taking the pictures. I was standing on one of the seats, trying to take pictures of those on the floor dancing the chicken dance. At the same time, I was bouncing around on the cushions. THEN - the next thing I knew I was airborne. Thank goodness for the little Indian guy standing in front of my chair. He broke my fall. He was only slightly injured. But as my boss said, "He was only a contract programer anyway."
William - Susan Neal's Century 21 office is right across the path from the park that makes up the center of Fair Oaks Village. That is where this event takes place. There is great charm having a little breakfast at the Village Bistro (next to Susan's office), and then go over to the park to visit many of the chickens. I remember one morning stepping out of my car, and being bombarded by a herd of chickens running across the road toward me. . .They were HUNGRY. You gotta just love 'em!
Stephanie - I have never witnessed the Chicken Dance at the Festival. . .But that is not to say that it doesn't happen:-)
Lynn - You're right! I should shoot some video! I hope you have a great weekend too!
Hi Myrl, These Chickens sound like if they didn't get food that they could turn into ankle bitters,LOL. I can't even imagine what you are saying. Whose responsibility is it to clean up the Chicken poop?
Hey Myrl - There's birds everywhere it seems! Key West has roosters roaming all over the place and Cape Canaveral has protected free roaming peacocks that annoy the residents with their constant racket and garden destruction. I say, "What's wrong with a BBQ?" :-) And somebody kill that chicken dance song too!
A chicken festival - who knew!? I once took home a cute little yellow chick from my 6th grade class that soon grew into a messy stinky useless pet. My Dad said he took it to the zoo, but I worried through many a chicken dinner after that! I hope all your chickens enjoy the festival, Myrl!
William - It is an amazing thing. Of all the times I have been over to The Village, and had those chickens run up to me. I've never had them nip at me. However, I had a pet duck when I was a kid that would try to flog me everytime I went up the stairs.
John - When I was in Key West in February, I immediately noticed similarities to Fair Oaks Village - especially with the chickens. Key West is much larger than The Village, but there is a tad of the same spirit that abides there.
Mary - Yes, who knew:-) I never had a pet chicken, but like I mentioned to William, I had a pet duck. There was a bit of a mess with it as well, but it was really good at keeping the snail and slug population down. My mother told me that she took the duck out to some people in the country, because it began to attack us occassionally! I didn't learn until years later, that she had cooked it, and that she and dad felt so guilty about it, they couldn't eat it. Yet, I innocently chomped away thinking it was chicken:-)
Hi Myrl,
That sounds like a wonderful event. Sorry I can't be there. I relly come and see you one of these days!
Steve
Steve - It is a fun event! I can't remember if you've been to the Greater Sacramento area before; but if not, it is a place you would enjoy visiting one day!
I have not been to a county fair since my two were in middle school - that has been many years! We used to have fun there!
Myrl, I'm sorry for laughing about your duck story...I had to come back and say it. I'm really sorry! :-)HAHAHA I'm so sorry.....that is really sad -I don't know why I found it funny.
Barbara-Jo - The Fair Oaks Chicken Festival isn't exactly a county fair. It's more of a little local festival. . .But I mean that in a VERY good way. . .LOL
Mary - I appreciate your condolenenses. . .I rally do! I was really grateful that my mother waited about 15 years before she told me the REAL fate of my duck! I am certain that as a kid, the thought of cannibalizing my pet would have been VERY traumatic:-(
