Edmond Oklahoma Began How?

I love learning about how our wonderful community began, and there are several local organizations that do a great job of preservinga and chronicaling Edmond and Oklahoma City 's history.

As you may or may not know, Edmond began simply as a water and coaling station for steam engines when the Santa Fe railroad built into Indian Territory in 1887. Edmond also boasts the first public schoolhouse built in Indian Territory. For more interesting facts about Edmond's history, visit the Edmond Historical Society's website.

One interesting organization that many haven't heard about yet is the Oklahoma Railway Museum. I recently found a great little article about what the museum has on display and how it functions, and wanted to share that information here for my local readers. The museum looks like a fun place to take the kids for a little history lesson, especially those little boys that love trains!

Thats a great post Ryan! I am really interested in historical sites in our town as well. There are many to see. Also, historic homes are another interest. I find it so fascinating that we can LIVE in a piece of history. Restoration is a tough task to take on sometimes but I think it is worth it to invest in your future by restoring the past. Thanks for your post on my blog and keep up the great work!

Thanks Andrew. Being in the business that we're in, it's always interesting to learn about the history of our markets and how they began. Restoration is definitely a big plus for our areas. Thanks for stopping by!
