WOW does this stager have "IT" or what?

Industry Observer

With nearly 170 Real Estate Stagers now listed here on Active Rain I tend to only have time to "check out" those who have jumped further in the puddle and participate more fully by blogging and commenting.

Recently I stumbled upon Jessica Hughes of Ambiance Staging. a new stager that I believe has “it”...  in every sense of word.  I believe she has a GREAT start, a GREAT attitude, GREAT talent, GREAT acumen and most importantly… tenacity.

A little while back I shared a “secret” on how to easily evaluate a stager. In that blog I said… “USE YOUR EYES and see the good AR stagers and use them as a litmus test to which you compare the stager you are considering in your market. Go to their websites... look at their galleries/portfolios. You WILL SEE fantastic work... and just plan garbage. LOOK at the it attractive? Folks, stagers are in the MERCHANDISING BUSINESS, they SHOULD be able to merchandise themselves.”

Well I did this at Jessica’s web site: Ambiance Staging …and I was BLOWN away.

Her website is NOT and needs not to be the most, slick, fancy, hip, chic etc… But, like a good staging, her website (which she designed herself) is clean, stylish, un-cluttered, easy to understand, maneuver through and best of all it was inexpensive.  For a self designed beginner it is one of the best I have ever seen!

While she doesn’t have hundreds of pictures in her portfolio… she has enough to give you a sense of her abilities.

The little link tab that says (About Us) is a subtle example of “faking it till you make it”. It makes her sound bigger than an “About Me” tab would. And it is the truth… when one is starting up a new business a partner/spouse IS part of the team in one way or another.

On top of being creative she is smart and witty. I encourage you to read 2 off her posts. The cleverly relate and feed of each other. The first one entitled 6 ½ Reasons to Stage is informative… the second one entitled 6 ½ Reasons NOT to Stage is hilarious.

Jessica is an AWESOME addition to the staging industry as well as all of us here on Active Rain. In my opinion she has "IT".

PS: Jessica received her training to be a stager at HSR (Home Staging Resource).  HSR is owned and operated by Audra Slinkey. Audra's voice can often be heard here Among the Rain Drops... as she is also a member of Active Rain.

Hi Craig,

You are right about Jessica, she's almost new around here, but has already made a name for herself via her blogs.  We had a nice conversation last week getting to know each other.

Jessica is not in my market, just close.  I don't work in the Kingdom of Boulder, but she has it covered!

I agree with you - Jessica is a breath of fresh air!  With her wit and great writing style, she is a welcome addition here at AR!

She is a rising star (I think I called her '#10 with a bullet' the other day!  She's like a top 40 Hit making her way up the charts!)

She is definitely raising the bar for all of us Stagers (and anyone writing a blog for that matter) here at AR!

Congrats, Jessica!  And it was nice of you Craig to take the time to compliment her through one of your blogs (the ultimate compliment Jessica!)

Craig, nice post to introduce someone else. Love the photo!

At least you didn't totally bomb like I did. These are positive remarks. Mine was the bomb of the century!

I'll check out her site. You're a nice guy!

Lovely of you to introduce us all to Jessica. It's nice to know that a guy so busy as you are takes time to read the newbies' blogs. How right you are, too, about those 6 1/2 Reasons Not to Stage-- I was in the floor laughing!

Nice tip of the hat to Audra, too. Professional courtesy well played.

"Craig The Reala Stager"...You inspired my to come have a look. Her posts were excellent. Her interactions are also amusing and thoughtful...You have yourself some competition with this lovely lady. Craig, I had to go check her just to make sure she looked nothing like cousin "it"...Love the photo man, I really do...Although we "dominate our kingdom" you do have me thinking about stagers. As of yet none have come out from behind all the hair to enlist business from us. Even if they did I am not so sure we would need them. Our homes sell faster than we can stick signs in the yards...I know that is not good from a stager stand point...But hey there are folks that need stagers. Not all markets are like our market. Great post buddy. Thanks for the heads up. As you can see I have been just a bit busy with the new member. Sometimes you just need to come take me by the hand and I am so glad  you know that my friend...TLW...ROAR!

Craig, your post is a wonderful example of a very generous spirit!  Thanks for taking the time to introduce us to Jessica, and I can't wait to go check out her blog as you suggested!  What a great thing to use your blog to talk about someone else in your same field!

And now, I'm off to go visit Jessica's site!  Thanks again!

You are a wonderful person and an inspiration to me.  I know that someday we'll meet and when we do lunch is on me!  You are welcome to come visit any time; I'd love to have you!

It's funny that you chose the 'it' theme.  My maiden name is Adams and we used to joke about The Addams Family a lot!  Our answering machine message for years was (all of us singing to the Addams Family Theme):

You've reached the Adams Family,
There's nobody at home now
But if you leave a message
We will return your call
Da da da da
Da da da dum
Da da da da (3 x)
...At the tone!

Ahhh brings back memories!

Jessica's 6 1/2 posts drew rave reviews when I shared them with some of my colleagues this week.  I thank you for pointing us back to her and I am looking forward to much more from her.
