An Accordion - Go To Cotati, CA - That's The Law! A Cotati bumper sticker.

Today marks the first day of the 20th Annual Accordion Festival in Cotati, CA. The graphic above is an actual bumper sticker that is often seen on cars in Cotati. While exiting the grocery store last night, I had the pleasure of getting a preview of what this festival is all about. The colorful outfits and beautiful accordions are quite the sight when thousands converge on La Plaza Park in Cotati today and tomorrow.

Wow this instrument seems to be a dying art form. Kind of cool to see that many folks are carrying it forward and  sharing with your community.

How do you pronounce Cotati??  That festival actually sounds like fun, on a nice summer's day.

I remember you posting a blog about the upcoming Accordian Festival some time back. I hope you got a chance to go this weekend.

Looking forward to the pictures if you do!

This looks like a good way to make a living. Doing what you love, sitting outdoors, playing music and getting paid for it. Don't you ever get an urge to just chuck it, go into Cotati, and take up playing an accordion? Stick a cup on the sidewalk and collect tips?

Anna Banana - Cotati more than doubles in size during this weekend. I was told they sell 10,000 tickets, folks come from all over the nation. Yes, it is a dying art but the ones that are left are fanatic about their accordions ... and this weekend.

Carla - Some pronounce it KO-TA-TEE and others say KA-TA-TEE. The emphasis is on the middle syllable. Cotati is named after a Coast Miwok Indian Chief. The sun finally came out at about 1:00PM, we were socked in with coastal fog.

Craig - Yep, I linked to my previous blog about this festival. Does that get me any extra google juice?

Elizabeth - she was making some pretty good tips while promoting the festival!
