Fannie Mae has a new Website that offers Home Owners information and Education to help navigate the often confusing worlds of Loan Modifications, Refinancing, HAMP, HAFA, Deed-in-Lieu, Short Sales, Forebearance, and Deed-for-Lease Programs.

Using a combination of Videos, Calculators and written information the site is very useful in preparing a Home Owner to take the fear out of getting in touch with either a HUD Counselor or their Loan Servicer and take action to take steps towards a resolution of their current mortgage woes.

The Website is divided into the following Sections:

  • Options to Stay in Your Home
  • Options to Leave Your Home
  • Resources
  • Beware of Scams
  • Take Action

There are Downloadable Forms, including a "Contact Log" to help a Home Owner keep track of their contacts with their Servicer.

The site has a list of Mortgage Servicers with both websites and phone numbers.

The goal is to provide information and access to Home Owners to be able to take the fear out of taking the first step to make contact with their Lender and move forward on a solution to their present hardship.

Dan, simple post, but for sure a 101 that people need to know.  I'm not tlkakinf just consumers, but a lot of professionals have zero clue about many of the processes you've listed.  Good stuff.

Larry,

It always seemed to me the the HAMP website was confusing to the "General Public" as far as trying to obtain some basic information on the help that is available. The new FNMA site goes a long way towards getting this basic info out there for both the general public and Real Estate Professionals alike.

Thanks for the informational post Dan.  The more informedthe public is, the better they will be able to handle their situations in a positive way.
