Oncor has an Energy Efficiency Program that is designed to encourage the installation of energy-efficiency measures in homes and small commercial businesses in the areas served by Oncor in the North Texas area.
Literally hundreds of dollars per year escape through cracks around your doors, windows and other openings in your home. When doors and windows are not sealed properly, conditioned air leaks out, making heating and cooling systems work harder. Oncor has a list of qualified service providers on its Web site ( www.oncor.com/efficiency). This program is funded through a small charge to retail electric providers and is open to most residents of the Oncor service area. Improvements such as caulking, weather-stripping and minor repairs to prevent air leaks may be provided at little or no cost. A friend told me about the Energy Conservation Concepts company. She had them do an energy inspection of her home and she highly recommended them. They did an outstanding job in my home, too. It took them over two hours to completely evaluate my home, apply additional caulking to open areas around plumbing, check and seal any openings in the attic, add weatherstripping around all outside doors and insulated electrical outlets – all for free. They also gave me recommendations about other ways to decrease my energy usage, such as adding more insulation in my attic. To take advantage of this no cost home assessment, your home must have been built prior to 2002 and you will need to provide the ESI number listed on your electric bill. City owned electric service providers (such as City of Garland Utilities) or Co-op electric service providers (such as CoServ) are not eligible for this service. If you qualify, select one of the service providers on the Oncor website, or call Energy Conservation Concepts at 972-517-3966. You could end up saving money!
