Android App for Real Estate Lock Box Keys

Real Estate Agent with Florida Homes Realty and Mortgage

I can't wait for Android App to install on my phone, instead of keeping up with the big chunk of plastic with bad display that we pay for now.

I liked it much better before with my Palm phone allowing me to log on MLS anywhere and open my lock boxes with phone for the "cool" factor for clients.   After not bringing key to showing in Middleburg one day I went to NEFAR the next day was the main reason though.

The problem with new phones is no IR transmitter though.  Android will have to use key ring token for transmitter with phone app. like Blackberry does.

Going to see what is available at ActiveRain camp Tuesday in Orlando while I'm there.

Found this old message board post about Android and lock boxes.

I have a palm pro and use it as my ekey but  I am bored with it....

I had a palm centro and loved it but it died, never to be resurrected. I hate the eKey plus fob but it's still way better than the battery eating behemoth that I had before the palm. Wouldn't it be nice if someone would come out with another IR enabled phone?

I am not sure the market is big enough, but if all Realtors ask nice  NAR could buy us one with our dues and get a Special Edition model made for us.

Keith:  I am SO with you on this one.  That clunky key is ridiculous.  I've been crying ever since I replaced my Trio with a Palm Pre and have now moved on to the HTC Evo.  Where's my fob, darn it?

I shifted from Palm OS to Android OS and love it, but didn't want to loose my eKey capability.  Fortunately, you can configure the eSync setup for supra on the palm to sync via cable connection.  Then it's just a matter of plugging it into the desktop once a day to let it use the internet connection and update itself.  Of course I have to turn off all the other synchronizing (since I don't want my calendar on the palm, it's not on my Droid 2 instead) but that's simple enough and if I ever did forget to update, I can use my phone to call in for an emergency update code.  This way I've got the greater functionality of the eKey rather than the silly piece of plastic they try to sell that just has digits and a character only display.

Hopefully GE will be quick about giving us an app for the Android platform.

Keith - I was actually going to buy an Iphone but it didn't have the capabilities to open a lock box from supra. No Infrared so I had to go with a Blackberry which isn't so bad anyway... Have had no problems with my BB bold so far.. Good luck with the Droid

Yes, you know it is coming.  Eventually Supra and Sentrilock will become software items only.

Oh, cool! I have been waiting for this! I love my Droid, but have kept my PalmTX PDA to do the boxes.

Thanks for sharing.  I actually called Supra and they anticipate a release in Oct/November.  But I am going to sign up for the notification.  I'm waiting on my Droid to arrive!!

That is good news. Looking at getting new upgrade on my HERO at Christmas time.  It is feeling a little sluggish and Santa needs to bring me a new phone.

I had showings yesterday and left ActiveKey sitting on my desk at home, lucky for me I was showing only a couple of miles down the road, but had client with me.  Quick pit stop to pick up my big chunk of plastic and off again.

If the folks at Supra would have been a little more forward-thinking, the iBox would have been bluetooth capable from the start.  Around the time they switched from the old box to the iBox, phone manufacturers had already started taking the IR functionality out of smartphones.

I will never do the "fob" thing, since it defeats the entire purpose of carrying one device.  I personally don't see the fob/smartphone to be any different than carrying the ActiveKey/smartphone.  The only difference is the fact that you're wasting resources and battery life on your phone.

As the batteries in the iBox start to go bad, I would seriously hope that Supra gets their act together and plans another lockbox swap to a bluetooth capable eBox (or whatever they'll call it).

New posting on Facebook says you will need 2.1 firmware upgrade.  They might have it ready soon.

Keith -

Thanks for the post.

Drick -

Except for your comment I was headed to my MLS tomorrow to get an ordinary ekey unit now that I picked up a Sprint Samsung Epic yesterday.

Now maybe I, too, will be able to re-cycle my palm to keep on opening lockboxes.

They have it, 50 bucks for key fob.  Also it does not have safemls on it yet for my MLS.  Maybe next month.  That means I would have to get small fob for mls passwords and have EKEY on phone for lock boxes.

Will wait one more month and see if upgrade is complete to have all-in-one again. Cost is 21.00/month compared to 19.00 month for ActiveKey.

Any reviews yet from agents in the field using it yet?

Let's hear them.
