Hike the Franklin Mountains

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 APD Associates

Hiking the Franklin Mountains is a very affordable weekend activity.  When you access the park, the cost is $4 a person. Be sure to take plenty of water with you. At least 3 liters a person if you are going to hike Mount Franklin North. As always, be cautious of snakes and watch your step. When you are standing almost 3,000 ft above El Paso, be proud…you are at one of the highest points in the state of Texas.

I love the mountains. A day trip hiking is especially appreciated when our weather is so hot and sticky here at home. Here in NC, the mountains are only 2 1/2 hours away.

$4 a person?! Used to be free ... long time ago. I used to hike the Franklins way back in the day. Miss it.

Allen: The one thing we lack is humidity, which is quite nice, especially when it is over 100 degrees.  These mountains are only 5 minutes from my house and I live in suburbia...truly a treat every time I wake up an see them towering behind me.

David:  I know they did a $1 million dollar renovation to the park not too long ago...maybe that is when it kicked in?  still, $4 isn't too bad when considering a movie is at least $7...without food/drink.

Hi David -- I do a ton of hiking here where I live around Cleveland Ohio in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  I can walk to it from my home. I take my two labs with me and we can hike up and down ravines, across streams, watching deer, a rare coyote, fox, listen to the owls on occasion, and just commune with nature and not run into a soul.  Thanks for sharing about the Franklin Mountains, we don't have anything even close to that in our flat land here in the Midwest, so I can imagine the views must be breathtaking.

I absolutely love your new site!
