A woman without her man is nothing - how do you interpret this sentence? Janice Roosevelt, Keller Williams, PA & DE

By

A professor wrote a sentence on the blackboard. it read: "A woman without her man is nothing"
He  asked his students to punctuate it correctly.

All of the males in the class wrote: "A woman, without her man, is nothing."
All the females in the class wrote: "A woman: without her, man is nothing."

How powerful these symbols have come to be, just as the tone of voice, a smile or frown can be when communicating face to face. It starts in the heart however and requires us to check in with the listener.

Janice, who originally coined this phrase, a man or a woman.  I think the whoe point here is that words have different meanings to different people and sometimes we read the same thing but get different meanings.  Based on the two readings, I would guess the phrase was used by an ignorant male that probably didn't know that he stuck his foot in his mouth up to knee.  What do you think?

Jerry, interest thought process, I find your point about different means to different people the most important.

Janice,  That is great.  Punctuation is so important as you pointed out.  And even more so with so much more communication being done with just words on line.
