REDUCE CRIME SIGNIFICANTLY......BRING BACK CHAIN GANGS......

If you ever watched the movie Papillon, you get a great introduction to life on a "chain gang" and just how miserable it can be. "I was a Fugitive From a Chain Gang is another horrific view of this system. "Cool Hand Luke" doesn't disappoint either. These movies show the good and the bad of "chain gangs" and compared to what is going on, perhaps we need to go "chain gang" across the nation

First off, I want to say that I am sick and tired of seeing good, honest decent people young and old get preyed on by desperate, not thinking straight...... individuals. We need something in place that makes a potential criminal think twice before he acts.

Here are some general examples of deterrents for homes.

1. Houses with fences cause a would be criminal to move on to a no fence home.

2. Any barking dog is a good deterrent. they even sell recordings that go off via motion detectors.

3. Bars and iron doors work well even though they look bad unless the whole neighborhood is doing it and then it looks like the people living there are in jail.

4. Security warning signs

5. No female only names on mailbox .

6. Don't open the door to strangers

Here are some general deterrent for people:

1. Walk with confidence. Do not walk grabbing your handbag as if all your valuable were in it either.

2. Go places with another person

3. Don't talk to strangers. I am sorry to say this, but during these hard times it may be wise to err on the side of caution until happy days are here again.

4. Don't go anywhere where you are not safe. You will know this if you stay aware.

NOW, NONE OF THE ABOVE ISN'T ANYTHING YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OR PRACTICED. HERE IS THE REAL DETERRENT

You do hard, uncomfortable time from the time you are arrested all the way until you finish a court sentence. No pleasant memories allowed is the rule. The food has to be mediocre and functional. No perks, visitors, TV, snacks, smokes, sun glasses, extra-odinary health care........ just work all day cleaning up parts of the various areas all over Cities, counties and States that need cleaning, maintenance and upkeep. I mean everywhere we go should be spotless that you could eat off the city streets.

Then, perhaps someone will think twice before bothering someone else. Heck, maybe they will leave this country for easier pickens elsewhere.....who knows?

In certain parts of many cities, you mess around and the neighborhood watch kicks in very effectively. That could be anyone from a group of homeowners, to the local block gang or the mafia who controls the community. Mess up.....and you get dealt with. Result: You never come back and the neighborhood is safe. My Point: there has to be a deterrent....a strong one.

Imagine driving and walking around town and pointing to people who got caught and telling your kid, that is where you will end up...working for free on something you don't like, if you do not listen to me. Some "would be" criminals may think twice after passing several of these groups all over the cities and counties.

Punish the people who break the law and let the rest of us have the freedoms that obey the law.

Would that apply to 'celebrities' too?   The press they receive and the reduced sentences, etc just shout out to young people.  No longer is it If you Do the Crime, You Do the Time!

Richie,

I like your thinking. It seems the law makers don't want to severely punish the worst of the worst. Chain gangs? Yea! I think that pink underwear trick would work also.

Perhaps we are simply too soft on kids these days. I don't remember a spanking from my Dad, but he kept a yard stick over a doorway. All he had to do was make us think that stick would be coming down after us. Were we scared of that stick? You bet. Did it work?  Oh, yea.

Susan...excellent point. Think: O.J. Simpson did he do it? Where are the murderers that did? Money bought his way out. Until we stop making this a business, then celebrities, drug pushers, dictators, corporate raiders will all continue to set a bad example. How did this get started? Some mega rich person got popped and a new way was discovered on how to get around things. Pretty hush hush back then. Now, it is mainstream big business.....disgusting ethics....thank you Susan for commenting

Linda...first off, your Dad, I know him. He didn't want to hurt a fly yet he could not permit certain conduct. He found something he could live with and enforce. Its called boundaries. Its his version of loving you. Now, why do people who have done no wrong have to fear? What is with that? I should be able to come and go as I please. It is the one that preys on people who should be scared to risk it, and then get caught. How hard is that? HUMILIATE AND EXPOSE THESE OFFENDERS...for every ones good.......thank you Linda

Ernie...people on a chain gang have to ask permission to wipe sweat off their face, blow their nose, go potty, etc. They cannot do anything without permission. You dont like it? Don't come back now ........here! Thank you Ernie....and leaving the post now

Richie, Richie, Richie, Are you having a bad day?  Where is my zen loving friend?  What happened to gentle, kind Richie?  :)

Okay, I know you are right....might I add, particularly for the female crowd:  Always, always walk with focus and determination.  Studies have shown that 99% of all assaults on women/girls are because they (females) were either unaware of their surroundings and/or appeared very timid/shy.  Also, never get in a car without checking the back seat.  And, it can be a good idea to lock all the doors except the drivers side so, if you are running away from someone you can get in the car faster....the remotes unlock all the doors...not good.

Please send back the happy peaceful Richie....he will be missed.

OMM OMM OMM...

Deborah....sweet & good......there is no bad day above ground so that ain't it. Zen is good and in working order. Gentle/kind to all with firm...... accountability conditions. I just don't like seeing good people being scared to live their lives and bad people going about it like it is no big deal. We have to get off the Predator-Prey mentality modes here. The way I see it, the criminal has to change, not rule playing people.

BTW, you give some excellent pointers......Visitors to the post...please feel free to contact Deborah for all your financial needs and counseling and she will take your questions on survival 101 too....

Your the best

Richie:  Sad commentary on the state of our nation and the state of some minds -- unfortunately all too true.

We'll just have to change it one at a time.

Tish....these hard times are causing people to make some rash decisions.....something has to counter it. I would prefer jobs and incentives, but if we are to have none of that, then fear....of getting caught is all we have left.......as you said....."sad"

Richie - I agree that we're much too soft on criminals.  Punishment is in order when you commit a crime; and severe crimes deserve severe punishments. And as for the "Zen" master being absent, I have a favorite quote: “You can get more with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.” Al Capone

John....I grunted a deep laugh from my lower right side and I thank you for it......

BTW....Wyatt Earp didn't like wearing a gun. He claims he would have put his away if everyone else would have too.......

Richie - I prefer a mandatory 10 year military service option with no retirement or VA perks.  The duty station must be either war zone or miserable like Antarctica or on a sub with exception of course like murderers. At least then they are truly being reformed and producing something of value for our country.  otherwise Joe in AZ has it right-pink outfits and underwear and living in tent cities in the heat.

Not bad Nevin...... you captured the spirit of the whole thing. Look, everybody behaves, we have the land of milk and honey. People don't behave, you have gunfight at the OK corral. I just want to behave, but the other guy thinks different. 10 year military stint......should sober anyone up especially in the Antarctic...good stuff
