I love the Wild Life in my Back Yard!

Wild Turkeys at Durkee Rd, Grafton OH

Oh the Wild Life in my Back Yard - from Turkeys, to Deer, to Gray Fox, to Turkey Vultures! Of course we also have chipmunks, squirrels, raccoons, a possum, groundhogs, variety of birds, plus an evil muskrat that is trying to destroy our pond and has escaped all of our traps, lots of deer every year but the turkeys are my favorite to watch. I've heard coyotes but not seen them. Unfortunately, we have our share of skunk, too - which have sprayed our dog Seren in years past. That's a lot of fun trying to get rid of THAT smell!

We really enjoy living on our 11 acres on Durkee Rd in Grafton. I was surprised to get this close to these birds. Not the greatest of pictures but I'm always excited to grab a photo when I can. Last year, I photographed twin baby deer who were not afraid of me. I've got some excellent photos of them.

Hi Carla, turkeys are fun to have around and it is one animal we do not have here.  Nice photos!

Do you shoot your own turkey for Thanksgiving?

What a 'pheasant' place to live! My wildlife encounters are rather tame: squirrels, raccoons, possum and an abundance of reptiles.

Hubby and I love seeing the wildlife that live next to us in the woods when they venture out.  We put food out on the outer edges for them.  We don't have the wild turkeys in our yard but they are very plentiful in other areas.

What wonderful responses to find when I got up this morning, ready to start my day! And NO Harry, I do not and will not shoot a turkey for Thanksgiving...no, no, no.  Rob, I visited your blog & then went to your photography website - you take awesome pics! WoW.

And Teral, it is neat to come home to surprises - playing "who's in the yard now" at times. I've been an animal lover for years. Larry, you have a farm? How do you have the time? Mortgage banking should be draining you right now with all the refi business!

Matt & Dan, since you don't have a turkey, how about if I ship you a few? There were 22 out there, 6 were half grown baby ones - cute. I bet they would be hard to catch- it's not often that I see them.

Mike, what a play on words, cute! "pheasant" place to live. good one. I don't know why I have not seen a pheasant here, though. Maybe not here enough to see one. Real Estate keeps me hopping, not home much.

Sue, we have woods neighboring our acreage, too - on 2 sides, thick woods with large ponds. Maybe that is why they like to run all over our nicely cut grass, to run and play in the sun. My husband cuts all 11 acres, but its been too wet lately to cut the yard as he likes to do.

Looks like guinies but more like turkeys.  If you were from the south the yard would not look like that?!

Carla...you have to love Mother Nature.  We have the Turkeys also, along with  deer and most every other small game animal you can think of.

OH, I will shoot my own Holiday Bird if I get drawn a permit.

The most amazing was the groundhog that managed to climb up my steps to lay out in the sun on my front porch, which was no easy feat!
