With the new school year comes new spending.
Back-to-school season for many families means new clothes, new supplies, updated vaccinations and other necessary purchases to send children into the classroom prepared. For some families, the coming school year means closing the purchase of a new home to ensure no mid-year district transfers will be necessary.
All in all, the back-to-school season brings with it a spike in economic activity for some sectors of the economy, a boost that economic experts say is second only to the winter holiday shopping season.
"I think it's pretty clear that you're going to have that back-to-school retail rush," said Jasper Welch, director of the business Enterprise Center at San Juan College. "Those people are spending money."
