People Time Is Not Internet Time

With all the super fast gee whiz toys around us today able to zip text, email, YouTubes, PDF contract files, and all sorts of images around the world at the push of a SEND key on a Smartphone we often forget that

      People Time Is Not Internet Time.

People in our business lives, and in our personal lives often have questions, emotions get involved, they get distracted by other things, they are out of town, have sick grandmothers, dogs at the vet, arguments with the next door neighbor over who needs to replace the picket in the fence, need to watch their favorite TV show or play with their kids, etc. People believe it or not have OTHER things in life than just responding to technology.

This is REAL OBVIOUS in a real estate profession, one of the most people intensive businesses that require lots of caring, seeing problems in the eyes of the people with the problem and keeping a level head when things are off in the ditch or in what looks at first like a huge quagmire. You can be driving cross town to get that last signature for approval on something and a party can be called away on a family emergency or something much more routine like the children got sick or they maybe even just got notice of a layoff at their job. Life changes on a dime and people have to adjust. Often it is NOT AS FAST as Intenet time.

Be patient with people, and understanding, best you can, that you are NOT always dealing with someone on the end of a communication that has their Smartphone grafted into their skin with Facebook set as their Home Page like you do. The elderly person down the street may be more concerned about getting their Meals on Wheels meal at lunch today and when you talk to them on the phone, maybe rather than seeing if they got all eight pages of an offer to purchase their house with attached amendments maybe you should first ask them how they are doing?

NO ONE cares how much you know, till they know how much you care.
