Humble pie is what we learn from, so hit the woods running
Enjoy the day
Lisa - We typically go several times a year, including wilderness trips to the BWCA or elsewhere, but the new baby limited our options. Savanna Portage SP (MN) was perfect for us, and our baby loved it. Can't wait until next time, though it will likely be next year.
Zeta - Not sure, but they definitely got into it. Maybe they wanted the combination sugar-caffeine buzz.
Don - Singing about humble pie, not American Pie, nice! (I'm sure everyone makes that reference; forgive me for grabbing the low fruit). I appreciate the comments!
Learned the raccoon lesson one of our first nights camping 20 years ago. Character is revealed quite often when no one else is looking.
Bill, Great observation. No one was up to witness me tromping through the trees in the middle of the night, or to see my wife picking up each Cheetoh by hand before we left, one at a time. But the next camper would have noticed the mess, and any additional scavengers like ants or flies.
As you noted, few people see the action, and many don't even notice the positive result. But if it's a bad outcome that resulted from inaction, you can be certain people will notice then.
Rich, I applaud you for your cleanup. Many would have left everything lay. When out fishing, I am always pulling junk from off the bottom of the lake..Shallow water of course. It only takes a moment to make things clean!
William,
Thanks for the comment. And I'll point out there is some pretty decent Pike and LM Bass fishing in the smaller lakes at Savanna Portage SP, which is where this took place. Near MacGregor and Big Sandy Lake. Smaller lakes and no gas motors allowed, so the pressure is minimal. I went out before sunrise each day in my fishing kayak.
It's been a long time since I've gone camping, but I surely appreciated it when previous visitors left everything clean and in order.
A really good point about being accountable and taking ownership over our own errors.
