August 19th, I had the pleasure of going to a continuing legal education seminar that Charles Damian, Esq. had written. When I was invited to go my first thought was...why?..I'm not an attorney...I don't need any continuing legal education credits!. I was told that the first seminar was regarding Real Estate and that some other real estate agents were going. I thought, well..in that case, why not! I love learning new things, especially when it deals with something I am part of every day. The seminar took place at The Bethwood in NJ and the experience was just great! There was even a live harpist playing during the breaks that sounded amazing!! The entire seminar was basically a Real Estate transaction from start to finish from the attorneys point of view. To be honest, I learned a lot. There were other attorneys there and a good amount of REALTORS. He explained every document in the closing process, showed us the new HUD-1 that they are using and talked to us about different rules and regulations. We all got to take a textbook home that was written by Charles and dissects a real estate transaction PAGE by PAGE...WOW! The information was GREAT!
Even though I'm not an attorney, and don't have any plans to become one, I think it's important that we learn real estate from all angles. We should try to create some type of relationship with the attorney handling our transaction because we are his/her eyes & ears throughout the entire transaction. There are things we can do to help them. Instead of calling them all the time asking the two questions they hear the most from us..."Is it out of attorney review" or "When is the closing date" ...We should try asking them, "Is there anything you need from us"
I think attorneys and real estate agents who work together as a team can make progress a lot faster then those who don't.
I know they are trying to have the seminar again because of such a positive response, so if you are in the area and available for when they reschedule it, I recommend you go! Not only will you have a great time, meet other agents and attorneys, but you will learn so much!
