Everyone all over the world is now aware that the Burj Dubai is the tallest building on the planet, and it is getting taller everyday. Now that the glass paneling is being put on this magnificent piece of architecture, it’s easier to imagine what living there would be like. The building is set to house both residential and commercial property, but it’s the former that will prove to be most interesting. What must it be like to live in what will be one of the world’s most famous skyscrapers?
The first answer that comes to mind is: expensive! You wouldn’t expect anything else. In fact, the higher the floor that you live on, the more expensive it gets, perhaps it’s a type of residential hierarchy, where the more space between you and the earth means you live above the rest of society and therefore have to pay for it. If you think about it, to live in a skyscraper somewhere like the middle of London or New York will cost an absolute fortune, and they just don’t get the sunshine like over here.
The apartments in Burj Dubai are about the same size as other freehold apartments in the area, and you have a wide choice of studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, three bedroom and four bedroom apartments, with different dimensions and layouts. The higher the apartment is located, the better the views of the city, the real reason for the difference in price, with apartments in the tower ranging from around Dhs2 million for the smallest, up to over Dhs 16 million for a spacious apartment.
The really pricey apartments are most likely to attract interest from investors that are looking for a unique piece of real estate, and have deep pockets to buy it, yet, there have been numerous people who bought apartments at the initial release for a good price and as the property boom continues, stand to make a very healthy profit if they sell.
The entire Burj Dubai complex caters for the wealthy, with the world’s first Armani hotel at the base and an extensive assortment of facilities for residents. All apartments are, of course, finished to the highest standard of luxury. While living several hundred meters above the ground in an apartment may not be my ideal home (or in my price range), it certainly appeals to most simply because of the breath-taking views.
