Radon is not a big threat here in Texas, but it was an issue back in Wash. state.

New Hampshire Home Buyer do you know what could be lurking in that home, home buyers do you know that the alpha radiation emitted by Radon is exactly the same as the alpha radiation that is emitted by any other source that generats alpha radiation, plutonium is one source.

The below photo shows a Radon Vent Pipe that was vented into the attic of the home. The vent pipe should have been vented to the outside of the home. You sure don't want Radon Gas vented and trap inside your home.

My client's Real Estate Agent, actually told my client this was no big deal and not to worry about it!

Radon Vent Pipe

If the home has a Radon level of 4 pCi/l, you and your family would be exposed to about 35 times as much radiation as the Nuclearregulatory Commission would allow if you and your family was stading right next to the fence of a radioactive waste site.

New Hampshire Home Buyer do you know what could be lucking in that home , a student that spends 8 hours a day and 180 days per year in a elementary school classroom with a 4 pCi/l level of Radon will end up receiving nearly 10 times as much radiation as the Nuclearregulatory Commission allows at the edge of a nuclear power plant.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lifetime safety standards for carcinogens are established based on a one in a hundred thousand risk of death. Most scientists agree that the risk of death for Radon at 4pCi/l is approximately one in a hundred. At the 4 pCi/l EPA action guideline level Radon carries is approximately thousand times the risk of death as any other EPA carcinogen.

Radon Entering the home

New Hampshire Home Buyer do you know what could be lurking in that home, Radon induced lung cancer costs the United States over two billion dollars oer year in both direct and indirect health care costs. Radon's primary hazard is caused from inhalation of Radon gas and its highly radioactive heavy metallic decay products (Polonium, Lead and Bismuth) which tend to collect on dust in the air. The main problem arises when these elements stick to the delicate cells lining the passage ways that leads into yours and your familys lungs.

Radon was first called Niton, from the Latin word "nitens" meaning shining. Then in 1923 it started being called Radon. its an essentially inert, colorless, odorless gas at ordinary temperatures. Radon's melting point is 202 degrees K and its boiling point is 211 degrees K. When Radon is cooled below the freezing point Radon exhibits brilliant phosphorescence which becomes yellow as the temperature is lowered and orange-red at the temperature of liquid air. The atomic radius is 1.34 angstroms and its the heaviest know gas, being nine times denser than air. Because its a single atom gas, unlike oxygen, O2, which is comprised of two atoms. Radon easily penetrates many kinds of common materials like paper, leather, low density plastic (like plastic bags and etc.) most paints, and building materials like gypsum board (sheet rock), concrete block, mortar, sheathing paper (tarpaper), wood paneling, and most insulation.

New Hampshire Home Buyer do you know what could be lurking in that home, although reaction with other compounds is rare, its not at all unheard of, and forms stable molecules with highly electro negative materials. Radon is considered a noble gas that occurs in several isotopic forms. Theres only two that are found insignificant concentrations in yours and your familys environment: Radon-220 and Radon-222, Radon-220 is formed in the decay chain of thorium-232. Radon-222 is a member of the radioactive decay chain of uranium-238. Radon-222 decays in a sequence of radion uclides called Radon decay products, Radon daughters, or Radon progeny. Its Radon-222 that most readily occurs in the environment. Atmospheric releases of Radon-222 results in the formation of decay products that are radioisotopes of heavy metals (polonium, lead, bismuth) and rapidly attach to other airborne materials such as dust and other materials facilitation inhalation.

As you can see its highly recommended and important to have a Radon test, when buying a home or already own a home in New Hampshire, or any other State in our Country. I know you want your family to be safe!!!

New Hampshire Home Buyer do you know what could be lurking in that home, New Hampshire Home Buyer you should know, a lot of New Hampshire Real Estate Agents play down the fact that Radon can be harmful to you and your family.

The main reason that a lot of New Hampshire Real Estate Agents do this. It has to do with a Home Buyer wants to have Radon testing they have to go back to the home so the teat can be picked up, which some feel is only using up more of their time. Some New Hampshire Real Estate Agents actually do their best to talk a Home Buyer client out of having a Radon test done on the home they are looking at to buy.

If you want a Radon test done on the home you want to buy, please do not let anyone talk you out of it and protecting your family from being harmed over time living in a home that has high levels of Radon Gas in the home.

Have a good one
