Parking Solutions for South Acton to Boston MBTA Commuters

Acton MA is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Boston, and the commute to the city can be a challenge on the highways.  The MBTA rail offers an alternative, however parking has been a limitation for this option.

The Town of Acton is launching a new rail shuttle on Tuesday, September 7th that will take commuters between an off-site parking lot and the South Acton MBTA Commuter Rail Station.

The off-site lot is located behind the West Acton Fire Station on Central Street in Acton, MA and the service will run Monday through Friday during the morning commute between 6:45 AM and 9:24 AM and then again during evening commuting times from 5:10 PM to 7:24 PM. The goal of the program is to encourage more people to use the Commuter Rail by providing much needed parking spaces.

Interested commuters can participate in a few different ways. There are 22 parking spaces at the West Acton lot - 11 have been assigned as resident and 11 as non-resident. Residents can sign-up for a parking sticker/bus pass combo for $250 per year that entitles them to a guaranteed space in the off-site lot and an annual bus pass that gives them access to the shuttle. Cost for non-residents is $500 per year. Acton residents can also get a bus pass only that does not entitle them to parking, but does give them access to the shuttle if they would like to walk to the off-site lot or get dropped off. The project hopes to announce the opening of a second off-site lot within the next few weeks.
