When we bought our home, it was only beautiful in our minds.
The neighborhood was the first thing we fell in love with. It was like a secret retreat in the heart of Colorado Springs. With only one entrance there is never any traffic that is not supposed to be there.
But the house was vacant after a foreclosure during the worst of the real estate downturn. It sat here for two years before we saw beyond the dust and dirt to the gem underneath.
We were so certain that this was our home, that we bought a brand-new stove and dishwasher and installed it before we even closed on the house.
Restoring the Glory
The day we closed was a great day-a great day for a lot of work. On that day, we began restoring the home after its long dormant period. We stripped the old wallpaper off the entry way and retextured it. We made the walls look brand new again. And then we painted. We spent the next several months painting the interior of our home. My wife chose colors based on the latest home interior trends. The colors are warm, inviting and incredibly comfortable.
One thing we had not counted on was what happens to the plumbing of a house when it sits vacant for two years. A lot of the plumbing in the house had to be removed, repaired, or restored in order to function properly.
The Kitchen Shines
We took the cabinets out and cleaned them and antiqued them, highlighting and adding to the charm of the large kitchen, the great floor tiles, and the granite counters.
We took this diamond in the rough and poured our hearts into revealing its true depth and warmth. We love the large kitchen that is great for gatherings with friends and family. The flow of the house is wonderful. People can enter the dining room from either the living room or the kitchen. But the kitchen also exits directly to the deck so entertaining can easily happen in either space.
The yard had suffered during the time that the house sat vacant. We reseeded the front yard and began to restore the back to a functional space. We planted flowers. We cut back the trees and got rid of the weeds that choked the back yard. We tilled and planted a garden that provided great fruits and vegetables in the fall.
We love to invite friends and family over to sit on the back deck in the evening and enjoy a barbeque or cool beverage. We love to entertain guests. People love it here and you will too.
There are 4 other homes for sale in the neighborhood.
They are priced at: $315,000, $350,000, $365,000, $450,000.
