Wall decals: Are they a "Do" or a "Don't" when your house is on the market? Wall decals were recently featured by Michael in the glass box challenge on Design Star. I've seen lots of them in children's rooms. The graphics can range from small butterflies and flowers to life-sized hocky players, bearing down on you with the puck. Another type of decal are words: quotes, slogans, good wishes, "Live, Love, Laugh" and the like.
As a professional Home Stager, I usually recommend they be removed because buyers read them as "wallpaper" - and a problem, even though they're not. Buyers may think they're difficult to remove and/or may leave damage to the paint finish. In fact, most of them simply peel off, leaving a clean surface behind, but why would you leave doubts in a buyer's mind? You want your house to sell quickly!
There are times, however, when I might consider using decals. I know some other Stagers have used them with great effect. Perhaps they'd be great for a model or spec home. We've seen "wall words" and the like, but some decal designers are taking temporary wall decor to the next artistic level. "Wall graphics for the commitment phobe" is how Blik wall decals describe their product line. Graphics such as these get my creative juices going:
Fab frame: just add the mirror!
Like Queen Anne's Lace - my fave!
Who needs real furniture for Staging - LOL!
How would you use wall decals, if at all?
