Visiting open houses this weekend? Be honest with on-site agents

If you listen closely at all, you will hear real estate agents bemoan or praise the open house as a marketing tool.

"I never sell the house I am showing that day"

"I only do them to get buyer clients who never buy that house"

"It's a waste of my time"

You can certainly make arguments for agents and how open houses work for them, but one thing seems certain -- people love them! And what's not to love!

Open houses offer a chance for people to scour the morsels on the market without encumbrance of an agent. They offer a low pressure way to see what's out there early in the buying process without feeling so much pressure to buy, or feeling like you're "wasting the time" of a real estate professional.

But, face it, some people just like looking at other homes! They may be perfectly happy where they live now. Or, they may not have the means, just the dreams, of owning a new home.

Do me a favor. Be honest with the site agent! I am sure they don't care if you look and don't want to buy the home. If you have to register, just do it; if you don't want a follow-up call, tell them so.

Be a grown-up. We're OK with lookers!
