Frozen Delite Searcy AR

What fun!  Hanging out at Frozen Delite in Searcy Arkansas several years ago.  It was a new group of kids.  Bell bottom jeans, vests, boots, and lots of hair.  At least different from the 50's.

Frozen Delite was at the time of this photo located at 2200 East Race and a phone book says the owner was Jerry Manley.  That's from a 1987 phone book.  Perhaps Searcy readers will remember how long it had been there at that time.  Perhaps Searcy readers will know who these ladies were.

Now Frozen Delite is located at 2030 S Benton Street and caters to lots of industry workers instead of a group of fun-loving kids.

Barbara, as we look back to those old "lazy hazy days of Summer", where has all the time gone? Wonder if some of us "seasoned" folks will get to enjoy them again?

Thanks for the memories.

Ted Macy, the older we get the sweeter the memories, I guess.  I seem to be finding it that way.

This one was WAY after my hanging out days.  I was living in Oak Park, Illinois at the time.

Yes, Anita, I realize you were gone.  And I may have been raising kids hoping they weren't doing too much hanging out anywhere!  LOL

Barbara - Do you remember when they built cars sturdy enough that you could sit two gals on the trunk, and it wouldn't cave in:-)

Godmother,

If I were not up here in AK, I would put on my ice cream cone outfit for this one.

Hi Barbara!  I need Sherry or Marcia to pop in on this one......I think I'm right, but not sure.  If I'm not mistaken, Frozen Delight was a hangout in my day....say, '59 to '62.  I was not much of a "hanger-outer" back then, but seems I recall other kids out there a lot.  AND, I don't think it was brand new then.  Not sure when it actually became a "hangout".  Anita graduated in "54, and if it did not exist at that time, then that means it came into existence in the five-year period between "54 and '59.  It was close to the Dixie Drive-In Theatre.  We used to load the car up (including the trunk) with 10 kids or so and get in for $1.00.  Didn't watch the movie just talked, laughed and had a great time.  Hope someone else chimes in about the Frozen Delight.  Would be interesting to find out when it actually opened.

Cynthia, I wish I could say that was me and sing "I was country when country wasn't cool!"  But it isn't me and I can't sing.

Myrl, if someone got on my trunk or hood today, I'd have their hide.  My car would be ruined!!

Godson Nutsy, up where you are just mix some sugar into the snow and you'll have instant ice-cream!!  And maybe a little vanilla flavoring.

You know what I'm thinking of is the drive up that Billy Ball operated back before he became the Kentucky Fried Chicken king.  It was on the North side of Race.  I got snookered into walking Race Street to collect for some charity and I remember his as being the nicest person that I called on.  I've loved him ever since but don't remember the name of his place.  Our readers are asleep I guess.

Barbara, you are right the Frozen Delight was on Race Street. The bowling alley was next door. It was the place to go in the late 50's and early 60's.

Marcia, where was the bowling alley?  And was this Billy Ball's place?

Billy Ball did own the Frozen Delight. The bowling alley was the next building east of the Frozen Delight.  I think, Bill's Grill and Toby Noble's Motel was across the street.   Ask your hubby, he should remember.

Hubby doesn't seem to remember exactly.  You may be right but I'm feeling like they were back closer to Searcy.  But then I'm surprised when I drive out Race how close Bill's Grill and Noble's motel are to Searcy.

Barbara,

Love your blog...we were sitting here looking at all the wonderful pictures and recognized the faces in this one...It is my younger sister Kim Vinson and Carren Clark (Jimmie England's daughter)! I called my sister and she thinks it is somewhere from 1978-1980.

Dennis, I remember the Pit also.  It was near Uncle Dudley's, which is a place most people will not remember.

Kristie, how amazing that your sister is on my blog.  And I had no idea Jimmie England's daughter was one of them.  They look like they're having so much fun.  You don't see people sit on cars anymore because they cost too much!  LOL  Thanks for naming the girls.
