Know your Lake Charles Zoning

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Mary Kay Hopkins, LLC e-PRO, GRI, CRS, CRB

Knowing the zoning of  the location you are considering as well as the surrounding areas is not always on the top of a residential buyer's mind, but it is worthwhile to consider.

The City of Lake Charles makes it quite easy to determine the zoning of property via the zoning map that is posted on-line. You can access it right here or follow these steps:

  • Link to Zoning Map on City of Lake Charles websitelog on to the city website, CityOfLakeCharles.com
  • click on the "Departments" tab
  • click on the "planning and development," option
  • click on the "City Wide Zoning Map"
  • click on the PDF

At first glance the map appears difficult to read.  To enlarge, simply click on the option on the toolbar near the middle and increase to a comfortable size.

It's great to have those instructions out there AND to have that information online!  I know this area can get a little funky from time to time with zoning so it is ALWAYS wise to check first!

Leesa, "always wise to check first" is right!

Carl and Ceil, you are so correct....those relocating here AND locals would do well to utilize.  How well I remember the snail mail approach and the trips to the city and parish.  I do NOT miss that part of those days!

In my brokers class last night the discussion was on Zoning and Land Use. It was quite an eye opener.

Captain Bill, glad you rec'd that exposure.   IMO, zoning and land use is significant enough to be be included in periodic CE classes.   I hope you are enjoying your broker classes.
