Too Many Requests = Happy Stress

I'm back from a week's vacation to Emerald Isle with my family.  It was a blast, and the kids loved playing in the surf.  Digging up mole crabs (sand fleas to some of you folks) and coquina clams was a blast as well!

And now I'm back, and it's full throttle as if we never took a day off. Wow!  I'm a little overwhelmed and trying to work through the back log.  I did respond to some inquiries over the vacation, but mostly to existing business.

But it it a little stressful, and I will certainly have enough work to carry me the rest of the week already!  And our workers are already scheduled into next week.

That got me thinking, I should feel enormously blessed instead of stressed.  Some in my industry (home improvements) are out of business, or on the edge of it.  But we've always had enough to keep going.

So I'm trying to feel blessed!  But I still feel stressed!  I don't like telling folks they'll have to wait, but sometimes I do.  And I think our customers respect that.  I certainly wouldn't make an emergency wait, we'd move them up to the front of the list!  But having too much to do I think says that we've been doing things right for a long time now.  I certainly hope that is the case.

Any tips on how to not be so stressed, and just feel blessed?  I'd love to hear your thoughts of how you manage it all, and how you let your customers know they'll be taken care of as soon as you can (which often is not immediately).

These are all good worries.  Imagine the flip side of this and how much more stressed you would be...I wish you all the best and continued success.

You did the right thing..vacation with kids. I'm heading to Colorado with youngest of four for his second year return to college and helping him get there with a jeep he'll keep and I'll fly home. I am looking forward to spending four or five days with just one of the kids. And worked extra hard going in , coming out. You need to have vacations to charge up, see how the rest of folks live. Good for you.

Thanks, Andrew.  It was nice to get up without thinking about helping anyone but my wife and kids for a while.

It was really refreshing and helped me determine that I need to do more of that on evenings and weekends as well!
