Falling in love with Fall

Okay, the temperature is still in the 90's here in Lenexa, KS but knowing that September is upon us has got me thinking of fireplaces and chili. The heat of the summer will finally start to cut us some slack. Fall is a season that most people love. The warm colors of orange, brown, red are in abundance. People welcome seeing those colors all around them, including their interiors. Do you give your home a change of seasons makeover - pillows, slipcovers, curtains? I'm ready for the change. Now that school has started it rings in several traditions at our home. Here are a few of our fall fun events.

We have an end of summer neighborhood "Progressive Patio" party when the weather starts cooling
- Hors d'oeuvres at one house, salad at the next, soup at the next, desert at the last

I have my traditional Kahlua (coffee liqour) making party
- Beer bottles, corks, homemade labels, friends, food, kahlua makin's, fun! I will give more details soon.

My neighbors have an annual bonfire party
- Everybody brings a side, they provide the burgers/hotdogs, sticks & S'more makings

My husband and his 4 brothers will enter the Shawnee BBQ for the 6th(?) year
- Kick's off with a large party (he has 9 sisters as well) Friday night is a warm up for the contest the following day

My husband and daughter enter the Lenexa Chili Cookoff
- Rick has done this for 6 years as well, our 4 kids love it, another event for S'mores. I get my fill of cooking at home so I am happy to let Rick have his annual fun in the cooking contests.

Do you have any annual fall events? Do you give your home a change of seasons makeover - pillows, slipcovers, curtains? I can't wait to wear sweaters and jackets when the cool weather starts.

Fall is my favorite season-Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday!! Yummy photos!!!

I do change bedding, pillows, candles, florals and my porch accessories with the seasons.

I too love fall!

I've been fortunate to spend Autumn in New York and Pennsylvania. Paris is great in October. Chicago was wonderful in September and October. Toronto also was wonderful September thru November.

... and now we have Houston. The dappled sunlight says fall, but the temperature reads 92 and the humidity is, oh, around 1000%... but this too shall pass!

Leanne - Thanks for the foreshadowing photos - I love the fall, and the autum colours and smells of dry leaves. Gosh, you sure do party in your area! I love Hallowe'en, even though my girls are older now. So fun seeing the costumes, fireworks, hot chocolate - a great time.

What fun! We have a chili cookoff here in the subdivision. And I used to enjoy progressive dinners, but it's been a long while since I've participated in one. Sounds like you have some great fall traditions.

Still 90's in MN too.....and extremely humid! Ugh. Looking forward to fall. It's just what comes after that that I am not too keen on. By February I'll be begging for 90's. :)

When the crops are out of the fields, tractors and hayracks get put to use for hayrack rides around here. These may be combined with bonfires, weiny roasts, and/or a barn dance for the teenagers. My dad has an antique cider press that he rebuilt, so cider-making is a fun family tradition for us. I can hardly wait for that first steaming cup of spiced cider -- Mmmm!
