REBLOG OF BOB STEWART: reBlogs now require commentary

Reblogger Mike Jaquish
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Realty Arts NC Broker License #235526

Reblog of Bob Stewart's Official AR Blog notification of requirement of a comment of a minimum of 25 words to introduce a reblog.

Comment word count is irrelevant.  Some people are more elegant in 6 words than others are in 100 words.  And I can copy/paste a 100 word "templated" comment into a reblog intro as quickly as I can copy/paste 25, or 35, or 50 words of blather to garner my Righteous 25 Pointeroos...

The quality of the content of the comment offered by the reblogger reflects MUCH more on the reblogger than any arbitrary word count benchmark.

But, it is great to know that you guys are watching and care!

The reBlog concept is a really good idea, if used properly. When we first launched it, that idea was that users could pass on information from their colleagues to their readers and put their own little spin on the content.

If you reBlogged a post, it was our intention that you would add some commentary to the start of the post so that your readers would be made aware of what it was exactly about the post that you found interesting. You would let your reader know why you chose to share this particular post.

Now you have to share something. Posts can no longer be reBlogged without adding 25 words of commentary to a reBlogged post.

So what do you think? Is 25 words enough? Should we require more feedback in order to reBlog a post? Do you think reBlogging is the dumbest thing of which you've ever heard? Do you have no idea what a reBlog is?

~Bob

Hi Mike!  I did not know this was new.  I always add commentary when I reblog and yesterday I noticed there was a minimum of 25 words required.  Usually I add more than that, and when I saw this thought it had been that way all along.  There's always changes in the Rain! :o)

Bob...I like the 25 words.  It makes the re-blogger point out why the content is so important to be re-blogged.

Ann,

I just saw it a few minutes ago.

The desire for commentary from rebloggers is laudable, and I always comment myself.  For illustration of the futility of regulating serial rebloggers who only seek points without contribution, the bulk of my comment is a copy/paste of my Comment  #93 on Bob's blog.

William,

No Bob on this ReBlog...  ;)

Isn't the reason behind this to try to stop people from just reblogging for points?  25 words is not much and true some wordies can be much more interesting with less, but there needs to be some rules and regulations otherwise the point system becomes watered down.

Simon,

Do you think that people who copy/paste insipid 12 word comments into 10 blogs to pick up their 250 daily comment points will suddenly be unable to copy/paste 25 insipid words into 10 reblogs in 5 minutes to collect their 250 daily reblog points?  I think not.

This will not deter serial reblogging, methinks.

Someone commented on one of my posts the other day so I went over to their blog to see what they had to say. I had to go to the third page before finding something that they had actually written themselves. It was a Wordless Wednesday photo post!

Reblogging is a good idea but using reblogging to fill up all of your own blog doesn't make sense to me. It just tells me that the blogger is either lazy or unable of producing original thought.

I think the commentary is a good idea. Otherwise, it is too easily abused.

Maria,

Isn't that a shame!  What a lack of confidence.

John,

Not a bad idea for a reblogger to embrace, but compliance and content must come from within.

I guar-n-dang-Tee you that the Official AR requirement can be 1,000 words of comment on a reblog and I can abuse it and beat it like a rented mule for my Daily Righteous 25X10 Pointeroos.

Mike:  Ummm... didn't you eat a good breakfast this morning ?  Yikes.  Perhaps a nice nap would help.

Any change like this will of course bother some folks.  But, all in all, I think it is a great idea.  Too many serial re-bloggers out there who CLOG the blog roll.  And sometimes... there are incidents when a serial re-blogger arrives about thirty minutes before the end of the AR day, and posts a bunch of comment-less re-blogs, and then when the clock hits the next day... he does another bunch.  Wow, does that clog up the blog-roll.

This comment requirement will do two things.  Slow down the serial re-blogger, and make the genuine re-blogs more valuable by adding the reasoning behind why the person is re-blogging it.

I had a great Breakfast today, Karen Anne, but I am a little sleepy.  Thanks for caring.

I am just not so deluded to think that 25 words will stop points-driven reblog spam.  This new rule will be a "Rule."  Other than that, it will do little.  It will be passive, as most rules are.  Like Speed Limits, and we know how effective they are.

Adding two more clicks to the serial reblogger's effort will hardly hamper their production.

The requirement is, "...25 words of commentary to a reBlogged post."  It does NOT require quality or reflection or any of the original intent that Bob mentioned.

Mike, I always add commentary when I reblog. I can't understand why someone would reblog without a commentary, unless it's just to stack points.

Hi, janeAnne!

You got your point across in only 17 words.  With clarity.  Good job!  LOL

I have always added commentary....and yet some people still don't read it and confuse the original writer and my content.  Oh, well, reading just isn't some people forte.  However, I do like to explain why I am reblogging and, usually, compliment the author.
