2010 Fire Run - La Jolla to Pacific Beach

This past weekend, I participated in my first race. I'll admit I'm a new runner. I started training with my husband in January of 2009 for the Disney World Marathon. Due to an injury late last year, we did not participate in that race. We are currently on track for the 2011 Disney World Marathon...

So the End of Summer Fire Run was a lovely 4 mile run from La Jolla to Pacific Beach. The starting line was in The Cove at the corner of Prospect Street and Girard Avenue. The flat route then followed Prospect Street to La Jolla Boulevard on to Mission Boulevard and around to end at Garnet Avenue.

Following a training schedule, Huz and I run 3 to 4o times a week around our neighborhood in San Marcos. Occasionally we are able to talk a neighbor into running with us, though usually it's just the two of us. Running with more than 2,000 people is a completely different experience from that!!

The Fire Run race results shows that 2,078 people participated. I had bib number 1650 and completed the 4 miles in  43 minutes and 51 seconds.

The race was to benefit 5 charities, San Diego fire Rescue Foundation, Volunteer San Diego, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jeans 4 Justice and The Surfrider Foundation. Among others, it was sponsored by Radio Sophie 103.7.

The Fire Run was a fun race experience, and the beautiful La Jolla setting was perfect. I'm looking forward to my next race and perhaps joining a running group. (If you have any recommendations for either, please let me know!)
