A Visit to the Ivanffy-Uhler Gallery, and a Tribute
I have gotten to know the Ivanffy-Uhler Galleryin Carlsbad, CA fairly well, and its owners, especially Paul Uhler. This is a recap of our visit last Thursday for the opening reception for Susan Weller, whose art we have admired, but a tribute to Paul Uhler. More on that in a mo.
Susan Weller's art strikes a chord with me. I have a hard time articulating exactly why, but it does. For me, that's OK. There's the color, the emotion, the connection to the past that grabs me...sometimes art does that. There doesn't have to be a particular reason, a why, just the fact that it just is. It's a feeling one has with certain art works.
It was such a delight to see Susan Weller's show at the Ivanffy-Uhler Gallery the other night and to meet her in person, and learn a bit more about what inspires her. The fact that she lives part of her time in Verona, Italy (a wonderful place to visit if you ever get the chance) made the connection even more interesting. We had a delightful chat while admiring her works.
Now about the tribute...
I got to know Paul Uhler through Facebook. He is an avid Facebook user, and also Twitter, and I have to admire what Paul, as a small business owner, is doing with social media to promote his art gallery in the Carlsbad arts community and to connect with others in the Carlsbad area in general.
Of course, once we connected on-line I had to meet him.
While I already knew about the Ivanffy-Uhler Gallery from my own writings about the Carlsbad arts district (Paul coined this) and had been by many times, the face-to-face, given we were already familiar with each other on-line, was like meeting an old friend.
It's been fun to talk about social media and how we each are using it in our businesses, and to explore our other commonality - my wife and I had an art gallery for 3 years back in the Boston area, and as a art collector and enthusiast, well, talking about and enjoying art are something I always have time for.
If you get a chance to stop by the Ivanffy-Uhler Gallery to see Susan Weller's show, do. Or stop by some time to see the gallery and say hi to Paul and Agnes.
