This blog is my opinion on the new 25 word requirement of commentary for reblogs.
Read Bob Stewart's post here if you're not familiar with it.
Wait a second. I've seen a few comments here about people "abusing" reblogs, but isn't a reblog helpful to the blog being reblogged? There are a ton of blogs I would not have seen if it wasn't for the reblog!
As far as the 25 words or less comment requirement, what exactly are you trying to accomplish, ActiveRain?
I actually love the reblog option. Sometimes I would comment, and sometimes I wouldn't. It depended on the situation. But forcing a comment may produce a lot of "Oh hey, I found this and (anything to fill the 25 word requirement)" comments.
Is it constructive? What was the problem before other than some reblogging because they like the blog. Or they want points for the reblog. Or they want others to think its their work (which is silly because the original writer's info is at the top of the reblog and their signature is at the bottom if they have one). Or all of the above?!
Again, I love the reblog!!! I get to share a great blog with information I did not have before. I get points for reblogging up to 10 posts a week. I get a chance to find a great blog that may have been posted when I wasn't even on ActiveRain. I get exposed to blogs that should have been featured but were not due to the sheer volume of blogs here!!
Plus, if I get one of my posts reblogged, I get points there too and my blog gets to "sing in the 'Rain" as they say.
And I'm sorry, but I love getting points! It is a guilty pleaseure and I know in the end it doesn't matter, but what's the point of points if we don't care about them? Many here on AR say they don't care about the points, but me thinks they aren't telling the whole truth!!!!
A forced comment does not make sense to me. Again I ask why force a comment? What does our community get out of it?
