How important are our data and the clients information? These days we carry our smart phones and laptops containing clients' confidential papers like bank statements, social security, etc., yet many people do not take the necessary security measurements.
These days our phones are mini-computers that lets us make calls, text, take pictures, surf the Internet, view and edit documents. Some agents are able to do most or all of their works on their "smart phones". Many phones such as Blackberries and iPhone have a security feature that password protect the device after a few minutes so the user would have to enter a password to continue.
Laptops and portable devices need more precautions. Even though we have special cables and table locks, our laptops can be taken away quickly. There are softwares to track down the laptop, but there are ways to bypass the alert. I recently got the iPad and am going to get the MobileMe software, which not only help us track our lost iPad, but also allow us to remotely wipe out the hard drive in case it got lost and stolen.
As agents trusted with confidential information, we should be serious on protecting our clients information.
