The Ozark Mill Trail is a beautifully scenic ride/drive from here in the Mountain Home area it is mostly north of us. This first post will feature the Alley Spring Mill in Shannon County Missouri. The ride we made over the weekend was absolutely beautiful. We made our way over to Mammoth Spring, Arkansas then turned north on Missouri state highway 19 to Eminence Missouri. Much of the route was through The Mark Twain National Forest.

The Alley Spring Mill is owned and operated by the National Park Service after taking it over from the Missouri State Park system some time ago. The spring feeds into The Jack's Fork River and it feeds The Current River, both part of a National Scenic River way.

I spoke with a Park Service Ranger at the mill and asked him about the brilliant blue water in the Spring itself. He told me the reason for the beautiful blue waters are the limestone and dolomite in the ground here in the beautiful Ozark Hills.

There are several more Mills along the Ozark Hills and I will try to bring them to you. They were a huge part of the peoples lives here in the Ozark Hills specially in the 19th century.
