Are You Competitive ? Want to Know your Active Rain Ranking ? Read This !

Those of us who are Active Rainers... whether Newbies or Oldbies... sometimes do not know about some of the "goodies" hidden in the nooks and crannies of Active Rain.

Quite a few recent posts have appeared lately moaning about how too many Active Rainers try and "game the points system" by either posting "serial copy and paste" comments... or by "serial re-blogging.

[I remember one Rainer who re-blogged about different dry breakfast foods... Wheaties, Cherrios, CoCo Puffs, Rice Krispies, and Frosted Flakes.  Obviously, this was a "cereal re-blogger"... but that is another post for another day.]

This leads to more points, and occasionally we end up with someone at or near the top of either their state, county, province or their city as far as points are concerned... but much of their points totals came from silly and inane comments or serial re-blogs.

There is some good news here... hidden in the cracks... for those of you who DO have the "competitive bug"... and strive to get to the top of the list... but try and do it by writing Quality Posts.

Aside from amassing points, there is another way that Rainers can climb to the top of the list... but this list... is one that is NOT built by those Rainers themselves... but by those who actually READ the posts everyone writes.

Then... if the "post Reader" likes what they see... she or he can "subscribe" to the writer's blog... which puts the new posts of that particular Rainer writer... on that subscribing member's personal "blog roll."

Here is the link to that ranking.  Top 100 AR bloggers - by number of subscribers .  I really enjoy taking a peek at this list, every now and then, just to see how I compare to my Active Rain "peers."

It's a fun list to play with, because it ranks us Rainers nationally, and by state or province.  It doesn't break it down any further... into counties and cities... but just having the national, state and province rankings is fun.

I DO wish Active Rain would write the algorithm that would take it one step further, and rank it by each county.  Maybe that will come... mebbe not.

Yeah... I always like looking at the rankings and seeing posters in the top 10 with 500+ blog posts with not one featured. Then you take a look at the localism posts and see something that resembles CraigsList with what is being posted by them.... many of the posts that don't even relate to the area that they are being listed in.

If I had all day and nothing to better to do... I could do the same thing... but I've got better things to do. Kind of why I prefer to do the "community" blogging over at Realestatewebmasters. Higher quality content...

Thanks - I didn't know about that. Went to see and was shocked to be #8 in Idaho. What was more surprising was that the gentleman in #1 position hasn't posted since February, and #2 since December.

#4's last post was March. The rest of us seem to be staying active.

Funny how things run hot and cold... those 3 gentlemen must have just gotten too busy to blog any more!

Next, I want to learn what all those little boxes under people's pictures mean. I've got the numbers one figured out - but how about explaining the rest?

Karen Anne,

Sometimes I think we should look at the number of comments on a post..

You have a lot of comments on your posts.

That speaks to some good writing!

Wow...I made the list of the top 100 in my state. I still have work to do though. I am #70. PA is a "BIG" state though so perhaps that's not bad...LOL!

My, my, my over 90 comments and it isn't even a starred feature?  Do you have friends or what?  Or is it in the daily drop?  Somehow all these folks found you.

As they should.  Thanks for the info, my dear and thanks for always being so nice to include us Canadians by mentioning provinces.

Karen - I agree with Sally, where did you find this? I cannot find it. I believe it to be a great list. Some things we just don't utilize.
Did you realize that many of the responses was regarding the list and got off base of Points being accrued from comments and re-blogs?

It was interesting to look at my state. One of the top guys never actually wrote a post, they're all - every one - cut and paste. Who are all these people that subscribe to him?

Karen, in all due respect to those who are leaders in points, and not all, does not reflect on their ability to be a good real estate person.

Skills in writing or lots of time to blog and get points is not a real estate skill. Unfortunately for me and two different clients, I referred clients to top point leaders who definitely had very poor real estate skills.

So in the future, a leader in points gets my attention but I check out other criteria as well.

Karen, I am still learning about active rain so I thank you for giving me an idea of what I should be doing here.  There is so much information here that I am in awe sometimes.  I have spent hours learning about different topics.  Grateful that wise agents are so willing to share.  Your comments to the commenters were hysterical.  Thank you for your wit.  Made me giggle.  :)

Karen,  Thank you for this tidbit of information.

Now, for those who are somewhat competitive, and haven't gotten on the list for their state yet, you might want to see how hard it is, as in a random sample of 4 states, none of them had a full 100 listed for the top 100 -- therefore if you can get a couple followers, you too could be in top 100 in your state!
