I know, I know, its still nearly 100 degrees out there, but seriously it will be fall by the calendar in a month and maybe by the temperature shortly there after. :)
Clean out the rain gutters - To clean, use a high pressure hose to get rid of the debris and then finish it with a trowel to get the last of whatever happens to be hanging out in your gutters. Then spray them down one more time just to make sure.
Take care of your pots and planters - Once growing season is over, move those plants into the garage or if you are lucky a green house. If the plant has reached the end of its growing season, then clean out the plant and dirt and put up the pots. I know the chances are slim in Texas, but the pots could crack during our very short cold season.
Rake the leaves - Time to clean up those leaves, so that they do not smother your lawn. You don't want to have to replace your grass next spring, because it died under all those leaves. Course for those of us in this part of the country most of the leaf cleaning happens in the spring when the live oaks drop.
Weed and feed the lawn - This is the best time to give your lawn a little boost with a
fertilizer. Feeding your lawn now will promote healthy root growth next spring. Using a weed killer now will make the weeds store the killer in their roots and help prevent a serious breakout in the spring.
Time to put up your tools - Finally you get to put your tools away, but wait, before you do, clean them up and store them in a dry place. Store metal shovels with their heads up to help the air get to them and they will be less likely to rust. Oil your sheers, store your wheel barrel upside down and don't forget to rinse off the bottom of your lawnmower.
Well wasn't that fun! Another wonderful Texas Hill Country growing season almost behind us. Looking forward to the "cooler" weather, but will miss our beautiful green!
