Realtors........How did we become the Locusts of the Internet?

I just finished reading the most interesting blog post in AgentGenious by Jeff Belonger entitled:  Is blogging dead or alive? Have Realtors killed the blog?

The highlights are a discussion concerning the droves of Realtors infesting the Internet posting shallow, self promoting, non informative, nonsense articles for the Google juice much like locusts descending upon a healthy field and leaving barren wasteland when they're satisfied.  Is there a small grain of truth here?

Locusts

Some of the opinions mentioned include: "You need to be original, yourself, and post quality content. not hundreds of posts in a short time with bland information.", "To many people focus on short tweets that is based on fluff marketing of their name and or product, that they sell sell sell, yet they don't offer up useful information that is real. It's more of a numbers game to them."

"Are more than 50% of the blogs and posts out there crap, misleading, false, or just fluff?  Yes, I would say so." And Jeff's final word of caution is: "... the quality of your content and... I think if you come across very passionate and knowledgeable, that this is the key."

Are Realtors then guilty of jumping on the bandwagon of Google SEO sacrificing content for quantity?  I can recall several recent blog posts that seem like gibberish when trying to find the depth or theme and yet there was no lack of linking phrases to personal websites and the repetitive phrases for crawlers that coincided.

This in no way is meant to degrade the vast amount of intelligent thoughtful educational material provided by Realtors that gives a wealth of information previously untapped and inaccessible to the public.  Blogs in my opinion are a fantastic resource that has a place on the Internet but I wonder if the tech savvy in order to keep ahead of the swarm are not venturing into another arena to set themselves apart?

Lorraine,

Excellent post, there is a lot of self-serving stuff out there, however, Google has caught on to it, and is weeding through it, because original content is still kind...all the best.

Google may not be able to detect blabla,  BUT consumers can . . . THAT'S what will kill Rs online. Blogging original, local, relevant information is a good thing and I don't see a downside to it at all.

It will be interesting to see where this plane or bug lands. Right now, blogging will be the craze or at least until something better comes down the pike...

Ron & Alexandra: Thanks. I'm convinced that the general public is smart enough to see through the fog to find the agents that are really out there to help serve them and provide valuable content for them.

James: I'm hoping Google crawlers and algorithms can disqualify repetitive phrases that just clog the pipes.

Candice: I'm with you on that one.  The Realtors that are just posting daily to get up front on Google searches will be scrutinized by the public and that's where rubber meets the road.

Michael: I'm curious as to what the next level of communication is going to be.  I'm sure it will involve interactive video.

I think it is a numbers game, and I just wish I was better at playing it. I don't Twitter and I do Facebook very poorly. I've become good at ActiveRain, so I'm getting good Google juice and prospects, but if I could do even more numbers, I could have even more prospects.
