Like many of us in the wonderful world of Real Estate, I struggled with thoughts like "Do I stay or get out of this business?" "Should I go back to my old career of 21 years that I learned to hate the last fews years I was involved?" "Should I just lay on the couch and catch up on Oprah?" (Last one wasn't going to fly with my wife!) Well, one of my favorite quotes came from the Cowboy Philosopher, Will Rogers:
You might be on the right track but if you don't get up and do something, a train is going to hit you.
I was with a brokerage that seemed to be plaqued with negative thoughts, jealousies and favoritism, so first plan - find a new brokerage. After interviewing several, I sat down in person with a young, talented Broker I had spoken with many times on Twitter. The change in attitude and positive feelings was unbelievable. She took me on and did something I needed at the time, she made me accountable for my business. She changed my focus and my niche and guess what, I was picking up commission checks.
Also during this time, I had a friend starting his home inspection business. We routinely exchanged business ideas, started blogging and frequently met for a cup of coffee just to talk and start our day with encouragement from a friend. At times, he even helped me out by giving me work within his company doing social media. As our businesses started to grow, we had less time for socializing but the helping hand at the beginning was important to both of us in our new careers.

With many conversations with the above Broker, she encouraged me to continue searching for the niche I felt was going to be "my" personal niche. A day finally arrived that was both a day of sadness and joy. Sadness that I was leaving her Brokerage and joining another that offered my chosen niche. We stay in touch and I thank her for giving me back the enthusiasm I needed to stay in Real Estate. The joy came because I was joining an Commercial Brokerage that specialized in investment properties.
My current Broker is a leader, trainer and motivator in Commercial Real Estate. His circle of friends and investors reads like a Who's Who of Fort Myers, Florida. He is a CCIM and his office is filled with sales awards and community recognitions. Together we are growing his brokerage and my personal business.
I would be remiss if I didn't thank these people publicly for helping me "get me moving on the right track! Super thankful to :
Susan Milner, Broker/Owner of Florida Future Realty in Cape Coral, FL.
Jake Mermin, Owner Mermin Inspections, Fort Myers, Florida
