Did You Fly High On Google Only To Be Let Down Without A Clue????

By

Did you just get finished doing the happy dance finding your post on the first page of Google for your keywords?

But then did you have yourself a little pity party when you went back to glow in your pride only to discover that your post was now no where to be found?

It happens more often than you think. It does not just happen to you. But why does this happen?

What happens when you blog on Active Rain is that Google LOVES Active Rain so much and Google spiders crawl Active Rain so much and so often they often give ranking credit where it is not due

So your post gets put up there with all the competition but then the spiders come back through those pages on Google Search Return Pages ( SERPS) and fine tune the details.

The details? Hmmm, what do you think those would be?

Almost every post that this happens to- it is a case in links. More to the point, a lack of inbound links to your particular post.

I do a lot of one on one consulting with brokers and agents in branding and blog and website makeovers. This is the biggest obstacle I find when doing an analysis of sites and blogs.

Google algorithms place a lot of weight on links. So you get pulled up to the top but then the algorithms sees that your post with no links is up against a website with loads of links to that specific content page- well, you are going to lose your place at the top.

ActiveRain.com, the domain name, has tons of inbound links but you don't have all those links going to your title tag which is one of the ranking factors of Google.

Let's look at this example:

I wrote a post 2 or 3 years ago about CATS Gymnastics- a local Gymnastics school- for a localism post. I have not been back to that post in over a year. It still shows up as #10 on the first page of Google for the search, "CATS gymnastics". It used to be  higher before the school started their Facebook fan page.

If you look at this post, amazingly there are 7 inbound links to my post. But if you look at the CATS website- they have 118 inbound links going to their site.

seo for agent example of google ranking

So you do the math- does 118 links beat 7 links? Yes, it does. Now just imagine if you have ZERO inbound links to your post and the competition has hundreds. Which one is going to win the spot?

When you look at how many links ActiveRain.com has coming into the domain- it is over 1 million. The CATS school only has 128 links to its' domain. But the CATS domain is the dead on keyword domain that the search was for.

Tip #101- dead on domains ROCK!

To learn more about taking your blog and website to the top- take our SEO To The Top Course. You will be glad you did. Please call anyone who has taken the class. Feel free to call on anyone. I want you to hear their stories. In 3 years of teaching this course, I have not ever been asked for a refund and only had one complaint- we addressed the complaint and now that agent and I are very good friends.

Happy Blogging! See you at the top!

This is just another reason why sites like Twitter, Facebook and other sites that can link to each and everyone of your posts is so important. It keeps those inbound links coming right to your posts.

Interesting insights on the importance of domain names vs. inbound links. Good to see that Google recognizes quality content over just popularity.

Katerina,

I took your class last year and then we did the one on one link over the telephone.  I used the techniques you taught me for about a month and then so many personal things happened that I have bloged very inconsistently since.

Now that I am back, I looked at what my traffic had been because at some point I had 1500-2000 within a month of taking your class.   I had about 5 calls from people who found me on my blog.  This is throught he next few months without moving a finger because after July of las year, I only blogged a few times.

This year I have been more consitent, but it takes several months now to get that kind of results.  So, needles to say, now that I have commited to the challenge to write 30 blogs in 30 days, I will make the time to listen to all your classes again.

So, Katerina what you teach works.  Thanks.

Before Katerina's Class

Before Katerinas SEO class

After Katerina's Class

Results afte Katerina's class

After blogging the whole year with just the memory of the class, and some blogs on how to do it in Active rain.  It has taken me all year to get this kind of results.  Within one months of Katerina's class I received the previous results.

Results after months of bloggin consistently

Connie- yes it is not easy to get links to specific posts. So you are not going to be able to do in on every post either. Just would take too much time. The more people read you, the more they will link to you. Another reason reblogging is so cool but it also seems that even with reblogging the link is back to our profile pages and not to the specific post. People will naturally link to you as you write more and more posts about topics that interest them.

Tere- We picked out some great keywords for you to use. You just need to be consistent but you see that even without that you still got calls! Thank you for your testimonial. Feel free to use it for your challenge! Katerina

Connie- make sure you tweet each of your posts and run your blog through facebook and post to posterous with a link to the exact post. etc. Lots of ways to build those links in to the exact post.

Maria- I totally understand. I have  6 kids I gave birth to, Nestor has 4 ( we had one together).

But you may have some down time during baby time- you may get more out of the homework part. Just a thought. :) Katerina
