Lake Sinclair Drawdown 2010 planned for October 20th

If you live or own property on Lake Sinclair, now is the time to plan.  Because if you "PLAN" do do any work on  your waterfront you much have a permit issued by Georgia Power to prevent work stoppage or delay.  The drawdown is a great time for new work, repair work or even some excavation or dredging, but you must first have a permit from Georgia Power.

The Georgia Power Sinclair Land Management Office is located at:

125 Wallace Dam Road

Eatonton, GA 31024

706-485-8704 (phone)

404-506-6449 (fax)

340 feet above sea level is standard full pool for Lake Sinclair.  The begin descent date is October 20,2010 and lake levels will be drawn to between 335 feet and 337 feet with the lower levels being seen in the A.M. hours.

Of course this drawdown is weather related and conditions could change at anytime.  For example if we get LOTS of rain beginning on or around October 20, 2010 it could start later and if it happens to be no rain at all on or around November 19, 2010 it could be a little longer reaching full pool levels again.

So if you have work to do on property you own with Lake Sinclair shoreline, NOW is the time to be getting those permits.  Don't wait until the last minute or you might not get your permit or be able to schedule someone to do the work.  Plan now and have success in whatever shoreline project you need done.

It's a great time to repair seawalls, docks, boathouse bracing, and even in general just clean up around your dock and shoreline from trash that may have been dropped or washed there.

See Georgia Power's most recent newsletter here.

It contains lots of great information.

Tammy--This post reminds me of my mother-in-law.  Dave tells the story of his mother asking his father what they did with the water during the annual 'draw down' in NY State Barge Canal (formerly known as the Erie Canal).  His father answered it was put in barrels & shipped to Buffalo for safe keeping during the long cold winter.

Awesome photo.

Mary- Ah, maybe I should have explained... they'll hold a little extra in Lake Oconee to our north and let extra go down stream via the Oconee River.  But I do love the barrel storage story.  Maybe I'll have to make one up about our water. LOL  And thanks... it's off the deck of one we sold.

Carol- Can't say I didn't tell them.  (I made it part of my email newsletter also)

Tammy - I'm with Mary - LOVE THE PIX!  WOW, you are so lucky to live on such a beautiful lake.  Do you and Donald live on the lake?

What a gorgeous picture, and a beautiful lake!   The story is cute about the barrels, too!

Tammy~

At first I thought it was something happening at the OK Corral...but now I am wondering how the lake looks during/after the draw down...

Donne- I live in a lake community, but not on water.  We have deeded access to a neighborhood lake lot a half mile from my house with a boat ramp and dock.  I walk the dogs there a lot and we swim.

Dagny- That was a beautiful sunset.

janeAnne- Okay, I'll post a draw down photo or a series as the lake goes down daily and then as it returns to full pool.  Thanks for the super idea.  I bet even the power company has never done that.
