FOCUS DEKALB
Hundreds of DeKalb County citizens, business owners and other stakeholders turned out to community meetings last month to help develop a blueprint for the county's future.
FOCUSS (Fiscal Accountability, Opportunity, Community, Unity, Safety and Sustainability) DeKalb, the county's strategic planning initiative, hosted five meetings to give you an opportunity to contribute your input to our strategic plan.
FOCUSS DeKalb is centered on four focus areas -- economic development, infrastructure, public safety and services -- which work together to yield a high quality of life, strong neighborhoods, economic sustainability and fiscal accountability.
Citizens interested in contributing their ideas to the county's strategic plan still have time.

During these difficult financial times, DeKalb County is focusing on providing the best level of service to our residents and businesses while maintaining a balanced budget and efficient government. The County's mission is to make the priorities of the citizens of DeKalb County, the priorities of County government by achieving a safer DeKalb, building stronger neighborhoods, creating a fiscally accountable and more efficient county government, and uniting the citizens of DeKalb County. With this in mind, the County will engage in a strategic planning process-FOCUSS (fiscal accountability, opportunity, community, unity, and safety and sustainability) DeKalb.
The purpose of FOCUSS DeKalb - the County's Strategic Plan - is to provide a blueprint for achieving the County's common goals. As part of his campaign and administration, CEO Burrell Ellis has stressed the importance of organizational effectiveness for the County and its citizens, which can be achieved and enhanced through four focus areas: economic development, infrastructure, public safety and services. Proper planning and development contribute to the economic vitality of our community, providing access to jobs, goods and services. Without adequate roads, clean water, protected natural environments and clean parks, we are not sustainable - thus making infrastructure a FOCUSS area. Public safety is a major priority for DeKalb. Ensuring appropriate staffing levels of first responders to meet our community's needs must be assessed and is a FOCUSS area for the County's Strategic Plan. Finally, the County's commitment to providing and promoting services and resources that enhance quality of life for all DeKalb stakeholders is another FOCUSS area for the Strategic Plan.
In Building a New Consensus for a Better DeKalb, economic development, infrastructure, public safety and services all work together to yield a high quality of life, strong neighborhoods, economic sustainability and fiscal accountability.
As part of the County's Budget Process, the County has a defined vision, mission and values. They will be used as the foundation for shaping the goals, strategies and action steps in the Strategic Plan.
Statement of Vision: To build a new consensus for a better DeKalb County.
Mission: To make the priorities of the citizens of DeKalb County; the priorities of County government by achieving a safer DeKalb, building stronger neighborhoods, creating a fiscally accountable and more efficient county government, and uniting the citizens of DeKalb County.
