September is Arts Month in San Diego

I used to paint water colors when I was in high school and college, and I still have an appreciation for the visual arts. During September, the visual arts are front and center:

  • Hilton San Diego BayfrontSeptember 2-5 — Art San Diego Contemporary Art Fair. Hilton San Diego Bayfront. There will be more than fifty galleries showcasing paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, videos, and multimedia works. There will be guest speakers, special cultural programs, wine and food, and a special VIP opening night event.
  • September 2-5 —XII Blurred Borders International Dance Festival. Horton Plaza and Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Sushi Performance and Visual Arts returns with their twelfth annual dance festival featuring blend of dance theater and video dance.
  • September 7 through October 17 — Mandell Weiss Theater. La Jolla Playhouse presents the world premiere musical Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin.
  • September 12 — Fifth Annual University Heights Arts Open. Free tour is from noon to 5:00 p.m. and begins at the historic Annex Building at 4100 Normal Street. Features works and talks by painters, sculptors, dancers, poets, and musicians. You'll be going to studios, seeing exhibits, talking with artists, and watching performances. Afterwards you can satisfy your hunger at any of the many restaurants participating in Taste of University Heights.
  • Old Globe Theatre in Balboa ParkSeptember 14 through November 7 — Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park. Catch two Neil Simon classics on a rotating schedule: Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound.
  • September 18-19 — ArtWalk on the Bay. Hilton San Diego Bayfront and the Embarcadero. Meet the artists and buy works directly from them.
  • Through September 26 - 2010 Shakespeare Festival. Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park. Performances include The Madness of George III, The Taming of the Shrew, and King Lear.
  • September 29 — San Diego Film Festival. Gaslamp Theater, 701 Fifth Avenue. Screenings of more than 75 feature films, shorts, documentaries, and videos from around the world. There will also be several fun events in the lobby, including an arm wrestling contest and a ballet performance.

Great job Jim about the events coming up in September!  We are slower here this time of year and have to really look for events to post... but before we know it, fall will be here and we will be going gang-busters!  Kathy

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and commenting. Comments are greatly appreciated!

I'm trying to follow up on these older posts like this one to see if anyone had any questions or if I really need to respond to anyone's comments.

I will read all the comments and respond to any that need a response, but rather than making comments here in my post to each and every one of you, I'll just let everyone know that I have read all the comments and if there are any questions, I'll answer those in comments below this one. Otherwise I'll simply post this comment and then head over to your blogs soon to visit and do some reading and commenting. I hope you'll have a nice welcome mat out for me!

Don't forget to let your cat come out to play with all the other ActiveRain kitties. Your cat-friendly dogs can come, too! At the end of the 2010, which is the Chinese Year of the Tiger, I'm going to put together a slide show or an eBook of all the ActiveRain kitties. If you see any stray cats roaming around ActiveRain, gather them up and bring them over to our forever home right here! The more the merrier!

Also, if you need a great cat book, get yourself a copy of Peg Silloway's The Cat Lover's Book of Days. It has great pictures and cat trivia, and you can use it year after year since it only has dates but not years.

Best wishes to everyone for a great Fall!
