Will the fake window work?

I was commenting on Julie Maher blog Wall Decals: Do or Don't? and thought that I had a project I can share about. It is a FAKE WINDOW project.

I bought antique window for $10 than painted it and really was looking for the landscape type of poster. I can tell you when your are desporatly looking for something you will never find it. That was the case.  I couldn't order from the Internet because I didn't have time for shipment so I was searching my local stores for ideas and came across that Decal at Target (3 month later I saw the same one in Home Goods store). Anyway, I peeled and sticked those trees and birds on to the rapping paper and put it behind fake window. To me it works just fine after I put curtain rod with nice curtains. What do you think?

I think it looks great.  It really makes the corner much more welcoming.  From a redesign or decorating viewpoint I love it....for staging I have mixed feelings.  I'm afraid it would serve as a "red flag" to buyers that the room would look better with a window.  On the other hand, it could serve as an example, a suggestion of where to put a window.

Roger, well I don't know what to say. I guess it is thank you for noticing and thank you for finding time to stop by and commenting. You are such a great friend.

Sharon, I see your point and I absolutly agree that if there is way of making real window I would do the real one or would strongly suggest it. My progect was more for the basements or maybe even closets where are no windows and seller/buyer knows that. I think it adds wormth to the space.

Kristine, thanks. Go for it.

Very cute...warms the space. I think it would have been nice too if the window was a bit larger but you do have to make it work with what you've got and you did that for sure!

Great idea for a room without windows. I have used the decals for the walls in several projects and even in my own home.

Mary Lou, I used decals for the framed art project also but never on the wall.

Very creative, would have worked well with a mirror I think behind the window.  More light reflection.  Never used the stickers, but I have seen them in Home Goods and Target,

I have a fake window/mirror in a spot that needed light and it works great but I didn't put window treatments around it due to space.  I like your treatment Anna.

 Hello Anna,

It looks beautiful!  I do understand what Sharon means.  And in staging you do have to be so very careful not to bring focus to negatives, however; I really think this vingette looks wonderful.  I just worked recently in a very dark, very small bedroom.  This bedroom had only one real place to put a bed and unfortunately it was on a wall with an offset window.  Ugghh,,,...but then I used three drapery panels.  I put them on either side of the window and put a painting almost the same size of the window next to that then another curtain on the other side so the three panels were centered on the back wall.  It worked to balance out the focal point of this awkward bedroom.

It's cute I don't think I would have picked up on it being fake in the picture unless you said something. I think it works and tricks the eye for the most part. Good job.

Cheryl, I guess you right that it is more redesign idea, because when we stage it is a lot more things that are first priority and fake window is kind of extra. We are always on the tide budget. thank you for your comment.

Tori, thank you.
