Family is What Makes a House a Home
Survey shows a major trend in buyers buying a home near family.
Home buying is often timed around life's major milestones. Everything changes when you get married and have children. Buyers tend to look at things differently. It is no longer the bachelor pad or roomate situation. Buyers at this stage tend to look for a home to raise a family or just settle down.
When having children, buyers are looking for a house in a good school district and sometimes to be close to their extended family, as they can become a good source of support when raising children.
When digging deeper into what matters the most to home buyers Coldwell Banker Real Estate conducted a nation wide survey among homeowners with children under the age of 18. According to the survey the results show that 70% of owners tend to live within 30 minutes of their extended family, and 42% live within 10 minutes of their relatives.
The results also uncovered that 65% buyers, purchase their first home either before getting pregnant or within one year of their child's birth. 43% of buyers purchased their first home before getting pregnant with their first child, 7% purchased while pregnant, and 15% bought their first house before their first child turned one.
The survey is just a simple reminder family is a big part in making a house a home. Buying a home goes beyond just a mortgage and numbers, it is about community of loved ones, where a family can make meals and memories, and having a great place for your children to grow up in.
Although many have the heard the phrase "too close for comfort," the idea seems to no longer apply when it comes to buying a house.
