My Brain is Lopsided

By
Home Stager with Z Touch Design Services

Since my right brain seems to dominate, you'd think it would weigh more and lean to one side.  I am envious of those that seem to have an equally balanced brain.  I have read about many of the stagers who were formerly office managers, accountants, etc. and it always amazes me.

When it comes to paperwork, number crunching and logging info, my left brain has to get up off the couch, pull up the walker and struggle to get moving.  My right brain flies out of bed, hits the floor running saying "what's next!"

Do you have a balanced brain?  What did you do in your prior life before staging?

Leanne,  I'm a Realtor (previously a banker and a counselor)  I get numbers and people and have attempted to stage a property or 2.  But I'm always blown away with what a true professional stagger can do!

There is an easy test to see if your brain is lopsided, can you pat your head with one hand and run cirles on your tummy with the other? :)

I guess I'm fairly balanced.  I like to be creative through staging and decorating, but I'm also very organized and like to have my ducks in a row.  So far my head hasn't fallen to one side or the other.

Leanne - I worked for Commonfund, advising colleges, universities and private schools on how to invest their endowment funds.  I'm right- and left-brained!  I'm not lopsided, but can't walk in a straight line!  Julie

I'm not exactly sure what my prior careers reveal about my brain, but they include years in corporate sales for a global airline, establishing and operating a B&B in Ireland, managing university facilities, and hotel management.  However I LOVE the creativity that home staging involves as well as the business aspects of it too!  I guess that means my brain is pretty well balanced -- or maybe that I just torture it when doing the business stuff!

Ok...I think I need a pillow on my shoulder to support my heavy right brain. I have been an artist all my life. Every job I have ever done, (apart from waitressing in HS) has been visual. I am getting pretty good at the "business" part of what I do but I have to work at that...while the right brain stuff just comes naturally.

Great Post!

I was General Manager and buyer for Saint Laurent/rive gauche in Philadelphia.   This was the largest rive gauche boutique in the world, and I created the first boutique to sell mens and womens clothing and accessories.  I travelled to Paris two or three times a year to attend the fashion shows, and was frequently found working in the New York showrooms of the Yves Saint Laurent licensees.

The market crashed in 1987 and I became an Operations Manager/Trouble shooter for T.J. Maxx, and then Marshalls.    Simultaneously, I designed two condom boutiques in Philadelphia (which got me on CNN).

As a musician, I was the Director of Music for the theater department at Rutgers Camden.  I specialize in Gershwin, but have recently joined the Houston Piano Club and am working on a Chopin concert.  I was selected to play for the Philadelphia Phillies VIP parties during the playoffs, and then the world series.

...  anyway,  what was the question?

I knew I'd be impressed with the skills of this group!  Wow!  I didn't expect a pianist though!  I can do the head/tummy test but math skills....?  I have had nothing but right brained jobs.  I'd be too embarrased to even apply for a "lefty" position.  My background is graphic arts and fashion design.  Maybe there's a little bit of left brain in there that understands how to construct a garment.  Or is that just an extention of being able to visualize something in my head?  Visualizing is big in our line of work.
