Here Comes Earl

Today has been an interesting day on the Outer Banks.  This is my first time here for a mandatory evacuation, and it was amazing to see the roads go from "bumper to bumper" to practically a ghost town within about six hours.

High tide today in Carova left most of the beach only about three lanes wide, and in a couple of expected spots nonexistent. This video was taken in North Swan Beach at about 6:00 this evening.  The surf is not looking friendly, and it is the deepest shade of green I have ever seen here.

You're lucky that the traffic can clear easily due to good road access. I recall the hours long traffic jams from south Florida. Just awful. Sitting on the freeway burning up your fuel, and to know that all the gas stations are sold out.

Living in Southwest Florida , we are used to hurricanes and storms.  My advice is to buy dark chocolate and red wine for your survival kit.  I had to evacuate Naples when Wilma hit us five years ago.  I now live in a high-rise that was right in it's path. We had damage......but my advice is to stay safe and don't worry about anything else.  Looks like Earl has weakened.  Will keep fingers crossed.  Safe journey.

Hopefully the area escapes without too much damage.  It sounds like a lot of people evacuated at least.

Earl came & went without nearly as much action as the Weather Chanel was making it out to be.

All is well on the Outer Banks.
