I am finding a very disturbing trend on this site as well as on all outlets for personal opinion and it has opened my eyes to the lack of tolerance that more and more people are exhibiting under the guise of "politically correct." You know what? I think it is time we all just get over this outdated, overused and misapplied designation. What the heck does "politically correct" mean anyway? According to whose politics? What if you don't believe in politics, don't recognize the word as having any importance or just don't care?
When I read a blog, I read it because I am interested in the topic, seeking answers to questions or just want a good laugh. I may run across remarks from time to time that are couched in a strange way or run contrary to my feelings or beliefs but this is AMERICA and diversity is important in opinions and the ways they are presented. I have no way of knowing what the life experience of the writer is... where he or she is coming from culturally or economically or any other one of the hundreds of markers that make us each an individual. What is upsetting is not the blogs that I read but the self-important responses from people who have such thin skin that I am amazed they are able to contain their organs.
When did you people lose your sense of humor? Who taught you to read so deeply into every remark that there is hardly a sentence written or a word spoken that cannot be skewed into causing you to have "hurt feelings" or "a sense of outrage" or deeming it a "personal affront" or even worse, that strange and inexplicable category called "politically incorrect"?
So, if you read a post and find it offensive then press the "report a concern" button. If you find yourself having a hard time putting it in that category, then maybe it just offended you, so put the blogger on your own personal "do not read" list and leave the rest of us to enjoy it. I am on this site to get constructive ideas and tips and education..... and to laugh insanely at times. I will get my preaching and moralizing in church.
