STOP, Please STOP

Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Heritage Homes PB00007070

Stop and Please Stop with the endless blogs on Active Rain about nothing!  I hope and believe this site is about a whole lot more then points.  But when you see people writing Blogs just to Get Points Active Rain begins to lose it's importance as site for sharing information.

In the past couple of weeks you've seen blogs talking about the Kenturey Durby as if it was next week.  What does that has to do with Active Rain?  You've seen people writing 2 sentence blogs just so they could pick our points.  Stop, please Stop with the worthless blogs and think about what the platform is meant to be and lets make sure we make it a wonderful ideal sharing experience.

Think about writing about the following:

  • Share with us how you successful worked through a short sale
  • Talk about how you helped a family get their 1st home and what you did to make it happen
  • Talk with us about a unique home you Sold and what you did that was Different
  • Tell how you helped a Family Keep their home
  • Share with us what you Community is doing to build jog growth
  • Share with us ideals on how to help our builders stay in business during these tough times
  • Share with us a success story with a new agent in your office and how you helped them
  • This could go on and on but I hope you get the message
  • Ask a Question those are some of the best blogs and the answers always fun to read!

Active Rain is a wonderful site now lets forget about the points and be sure we are sharing information that might help someone else who is reading your blog.  And yes you should think out of the box and it's ok to share something fun that relates back to our business.  But lets get this a Great Venue for Providing Out of the Box ideals.

Please Don't Stop Blog just Remember what Active Rain is all about!  It's not POINTS!

Not everyone is a writer, not everyone is going to present just what you want to digest, graze on. But with 190,000 AR members around campus here at the University, there are so many great contributors. Just search the topic. The time you spent on this blog to preach to the choir, well, you and I and other AR bloggers just need to do our job of promoting our areas, our properties, establishing a brand. The "how to blog" blog posts to me are fluff, lots of air. Waste of electrons. Let other bloggers find their voice, establish their brand, transparency at their speed. More time put in to blogging is what is usually missing. Want it all boils down to. Not bad follks needing scolding really. Skip the ones you don't like, create the ones we need to see. All our earliest blogs had training wheels on them, and were see dick, see jane. Many new folks on board and welcome them, don't scold them.

Whew!  I like the point system because it encourages me to write, but I see the downside and as you point out.  Yesterday, I've spent hours writing some posts because I want them to mean something.

Ultimately, I don't think there is much to be done about it - just pass over them.

I hear ya Michael, it's good to be relevant and not just blather.  But I do see the point of events and local businesses.  People who finding your posts may happen upon you because of those blogs too, and they help show that you know the area.  But perhaps you're talking about people all over the country writing about the Derby, haven't paid attention.

It's also a way for agents to connect with other agents around the country and get to know each other. That rapport can eventually lead to referrals.

I have to agree with you. It is not about the points. It is about real content and driving people to YOU. I have been blogging for 18 months and love it. I do not even look at the points. Create content will set me apart from the pack.

Remember there are lots of reasons for being on Active Rain!  Some teach, others learn, and most of us do a little of both. Some are here to network, others are here strictly for marketing their listings, or books, orservices, and others are here to learn and practice writing for SEO and for becoming a "local" presence on the internet. My post yesterday was about how Active Rain was kind of like Candyland - a little bit for everyone, no matter what your tastes!

Andrew,  I did not mean anyone was a bad person and yes I agree you have to put your toe in the water to become comfortable with blogging.  But even in the beginning it can have purpose.  Did not mean to be scolding!

Margaret I agree the point system makes me write but I just want to folks to think about what they are writing.

Karen I agree that the repport is great and can lead to referrals.

Harry I agree!
