My last couple blogs documented a few things I did while attending the MN State Fair this year (especially the one of EVERYTING I ate), but now I want to show you my favorite thing at the Fair, The Birthing Center.
Throughout the Fair babies from various animal species are born, usually everyday and sometimes multiply births a day. When you visit the The Birthing Center you may walk into the middle of a baby calf being born, a Mom washing her baby after just giving birth, or feeding time for many babies with their new Moms.
No matter what you find as you enter your heart is opened and all around the huge building you hear. "AAhhhhh". Everything is so sweet and so innocent. The birthing process so natural although once when I came into the center they had chains around a calves feet and a machine was pulling it out of Mom. Ugh!!
It was stuck and luckily trained veternarians are at the center 24/7 to assist during every birth and in this case saved Mom and baby or both would have died.
Here are some photos of babies ranging from a couple days old to a few hours old. The little calf had been born 5 hours prior. Mom already had him all spit and polished although she continued to clean her. The baby was still falling down with wobbly legs but man oh man, five hours old and she was walking, fluffy and cute as can be.
Enjoy!!
